Our next Artsreach Dorset show at Studland Village Hall is on Saturday 18h July 2026 at 7.30pm, featuring Rachael McShane & the Cartographers.

Rachael McShane

A renowned folk singer, cellist, fiddle and viola player from the North East of England, Rachael McShane gained fame as an original member of the award-winning folk band Bellowhead. A much sought-after performer and recording artist, her 2009 debut solo album, No Man’s Fool, established impressive credentials that led her to signing with the prestigious Topic Records, the oldest independent record label in the world.

Rachael is also the leader of The Cartographers, a band that brings together the exceptional talents of guitarist Ian Stephenson (Kan, Baltic Crossing), and melodeon player Julian Sutton (Kathryn Tickell, Sting). Playing with expertise and sparkle, their music is a powerful blend of traditional folk and contemporary sounds, with Rachael's stunning voice and instrumental skills leading the line.

The Cartographers have built a loyal following thanks to their lively performances and critically acclaimed albums, combining stunning vocals and impressive instrumentals with innovative arrangements in a refreshing take on traditional folk.

Great review of Sarah McQuaid Forrest of Artsreach Dorset on Saturday night.

Massive thanks to Neil King of Fatea Magazine for the lovely review he’s just published of Saturday’s Artsreach Dorset show at Studland Village Hall! “She’s not beholden to one genre,” he writes, “but rather gives the songs what they need, be it country, folk, blues, Americana or any combination. … It was a cracking night out …. Sarah McQuaid knows how to put a show together, this was top drawer entertainment, well worth driving the long way around for.” Thank you so, so much, Neil! We also managed to get out for a lovely walk yesterday — photos to follow in a separate post. Looking forward to playing Backroads House Concerts, Hertford TOMORROW (Weds), Warwickshire Library & Information Service Rugby Library & Information Centre Fri, Bishop's Castle Town Hall & Visitor Information Sat, Knutsford Little Theatre Sun, Roses Theatre, Tewkesbury next Tues 3rd & final show of this tour at The Bridge Inn, Topsham Weds 4th, with a Germany/Benelux/Denmark tour to follow in Feb-Mar. See link in bio for info on all shows (tell your friends and please book in advance if you can), newsletter signup and donation button. Thank you so much!
