Christ-StĂ©phane Boizi - 6/11/26 Goods Shed Stroud. Trombonist, composer, bandleader, and a Tomorrow’s Warriors Emerging Artist, Christ-StĂ©phane Boizi is already making his mark on the London jazz scene, but his reputation is set to soar with the news that he has signed to Mark Kavuma’s Banger Factory Records label, with his debut LP As The Spirit Leads scheduled for release later in the year.
Boizi’s sound is steeped in the hard bop tradition - carrying influences of the legacy of by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Horace Silver, and Jackie McLean. With his compositions he creates his own a sonic exploration of his close personal connection to the music of the Black Christian Church together with that hard bop sound.

Tim Telling
Tim Telling (Disco Sucks) . DISCO SUCKS was the club night partially responsible for the gentrification of Stroud. Disco Sucks ran for years at SVA with capacity crowds and some truly harrowing clear-up sessions involving sticky floors and bins full of wee. Like most legends, the night itself is perhaps best left in the past but its DJs are somehow still alive, and even more remarkably haven’t sold all their records to pay for rehab.

Liam Large
Globe travelling crate-digger, compiler for the legendary Jazzman Records and founder of Jukebox Jam label/club night.
Liam has also (for the last 10 years!) ran East London's much-beloved Tropical Yard club. Focusing broadly on Afro-Latin sounds, all played from original vinyl, expect to hear intense, frenetic and hypnotic rhythms from the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa and beyond.

Mali Sheard is our next featured artist in the series of Warriors Rise in the round at the Goods Shed Stroud. Blending the lyricism of folk traditions with the rhythmic drive of contemporary jazz, Tomorrow’s Warriors Emerging Artist Mali Sheard is a saxophonist and composer whose music is both evocative and adventurous.

Already building a reputation as rising force on the UK jazz scene both as a solo artist and as a member of Ankora, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of her debut album in the second half of 2026.

Her songs often reflect on personal journeys - discovering new people and places, facing challenges, and returning to the “comfort of the homestead” to reflect and dream of future adventures. This storytelling approach gives her music a sense of warmth, intimacy, and cinematic scope.

Bringing together the energy of contemporary jazz and the lyricism of folk, Mali Sheard’s Homestead is a vibrant quintet performing melodic, groove-driven originals inspired by Brian Blade, Phil Woods, and Laura Mvula.

Bex Burch joins us for a dive into the ‘unknown’, taking apart her techniques and instruments through deep listening to expand her practice in this special Stroud residency at the Goods Shed, In her own words, “the deepest part of this invitation is the trust and permission to ‘not know’ and share this creative experience with your open-hearted community in Stroud”.

Whether combining the rhythmic timbres of wood, metal and audience claps or duetting with echoed sounds of water dripping into a metal basin, Bex Burch is a composer, percussionist and instrument maker who emphasises space, repetition and chaos, an approach she calls “messy minimalism”.

Her 2023 debut album, ‘There is only love and fear’, released via International Anthem was named The Guardian’s Contemporary Album of the Month and was nominated for the Deutscher Jazzpreis. She has released music with Leafcutter John, Flock, Vula Viel, Peter Zummo, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Ben LaMar Gay and Dan Bitney.

Brian Jackson, A Legend of Conscious Music Comes to Stroud! (London) and present one of the most significant live music bookings to come to the Stroud district in recent years: a full headline show from the legendary musician and composer whose catalogue — recorded alongside Gil Scott-Heron — has shaped over fifty years of protest music, hip-hop, jazz and soul.

Taking place at the iconic Goods Shed on Saturday 6 June, the show is part of Brian Jackson’s Now More Than Ever tour, a programme that feels as urgent and necessary in 2026 as the music did when it was first written.

Church of Sound is a regular gig in St James the Great Church, Lower Clapton Rd. A central speaker tower stands tall in the centre of the room, surrounded by musicians, audience and crew. Emphasis is placed firmly on the music: carefully selected, joyfully performed & cleanly recorded.

Bristol 8-piece Soma Soma - GOODS SHED STROUD Sat May 23 Plus and and FULL LATIN DAY EXPERIENCE

SOMA SOMA
Soma Soma are an 8-piece band performing their unique style of Afro-brazilian music. Based in Bristol, UK, Soma Soma are made up of Brazilian and British musicians and sing in Brazilian Portuguese. The vocal performances are powerful and emotive, conveying the passion of the music even for those who don’t understand the language.

Their music combines Brazilian styles such as the rhythmic drive of Samba, the smooth melodies of Bossa Nova, and the soulful sway of Arrocha with the vibrant energy of African Highlife, the groove of Afrobeat, and the infectious danceability of Soukous. They take an unorthodox approach to song writing which takes listeners on an emotional journey, swaying and listening intently to deep psychedelic soundscapes and dancing ecstatically to authentic Samba.
