🔸️Tournament Round-Up🔸️
The 9th Annual Strathdon 7-a-side Football Tournament was held on Saturday 1st July, this year our chosen charity was Mental Health Aberdeen.
12 teams from around Donside and Deeside arrived for the event with 103 players taking part and around 150 spectators came along to watch! The matches kicked off at 12:30pm and the first half of the group games were played, there was some brilliant football on display but it was Rebecca Dempster of Notthat Athletic FC with the pick of the goals as she smashed one in from distance!
At 2:30pm our two local primary schools Strathdon and Towie played a 20 minute match which was well contested and ended in a goalless draw, the children were presented with a gift each and the trophy to share by Tigger our mascot! Also at 2:30pm was our Crossbar Challenge, a voucher for Kildrummy Inn was the prize, Dylan Reid was the only person to have a successful hit and won the event.
The Steading Bar provided the BBQ which was enjoyed by all and Aboyne Ice Cream Van were also in attendance to help cool the players down after a tough shift on the pitch.
At 3pm the second half of group matches were played and we discovered who would be progressing to the Semi-Finals. This year it was Lumsden Young Team FC, Nice to Michu FC, Lads on Toure FC and Super Sundings FC. Josh Forbes carried Lumsden Young Team FC through to the final with a hat-trick in the Semi's, he was our Player of the Tournament with 8 goals on the day however it wasn't enough to take home the trophy as the youth and fitness of Lads on Toure FC was too much for them in the Final and they lifted the K.M. Cup for 2023.
Whilst the football was being played out, raffle tickets and lucky squares were being sold and people were putting in their bids for the silent auction. The silent auction was a great success and alone raised £1175.
At night we had a disco in the Lonach Hall, our fundraising continued and towards the end of the night the lucky squares and raffle were drawn.
This has been our most successful year in terms of fundraising, with a total of £3406 raised for Mental Health Aberdeen, bringing our overall total raised to £19300.
We would like to say a massive thank you to those who donated auction/raffle items, sponsored parts of the day, helped with setting up and everyone for coming along and supporting the event!
