⬛🟥NEW...DEHS AFTER SCHOOL GIRLS RUGBY 🟥⬛

We are delighted to share that Wigtownshire Rugby Football Club are delivering a block of after school rugby at the Douglas-Ewart High School starting THIS FRIDAY (18th Sept)!

The club will be led on by the coaches from Wigtownshire Rugby Club girls section headed up by Eddie Stevenson.

DAY: FRIDAYS
TIME: 3.20-4.30PM
WHERE: DEHS BOTTOM GRASS PITCHES
WHO: S1-6 PUPILS
COST: FREE
KIT: Please bring water and dress for the weather!

WEST UNDER 13 GIRLS NETBALL SQUAD - SELF NOMINATION FORM

We are delighted to announce that the West Under 13 netball squad will run monthly again at the Merrick Leisure Centre this year for keen female netballers in P7 and S1.

If you would like to nominate a player for the trials for the squad which will take place on Monday 21st September in the Merrick Games Hall, Newton Stewart from 4.30-6pm then please complete this online nomination form before Thursday 17th September.

Girls nominated must have been involved in school netball, leagues and/or festivals and not those new to the game. Parent information letters have been shared with schools with further details.

🎾🏸Stranraer Cluster Clubs🎾🎾

Active Schools are delivering a taster block of tennis and a taster block of badminton as cluster clubs this term.

Both sessions will be held in the Ryan Centre Games Hall for selected primaries and will be available for all abilities to come along try the sport, make friends and have some fun! 😁

Sessions are as follows:

P5-7 Taster Fun Play Tennis Cluster Club – Tuesday 15th 22nd & 29th September at the Ryan Centre Games Hall – 4.30pm – 5.15pm

❤️🖤Cluster handball club🖤❤️

Tonight saw our new primary Autumn handball club kick off at the merrick.

Well done to all the wee players and a big thanks to all our young leaders from the Douglas-Ewart High School who came along to help.

The group completed their handball introduction course during the summer holidays and it was lovely having them support the club.

There are still a few spaces, so please do sign up and come and get involved.

Supporting the physical and psychological development of young people | In these dynamic workshops, you will deepen your understanding about the physical and psychological development of young people.

In the Psychological Development workshops, you will:
- Explore the impact of adolescence on the brain.
- Investigate the neural mechanisms which support effective learning.
- Consider strategies for supporting mental health and wellbeing.
- Discuss what we can expect at this time of transition and how to adapt our work with children and young people.

In the Physical Development workshops, you will:
- Explore the term physical literacy and identify how much physical activity is required
- Discover tools to support fundamental movement and sports skills assessment
- Discuss how to further support children’s physical development through a movement-rich environment
- Consider solutions to engagement barriers and common pitfalls and myths in sports coaching
- Facilitate movement creativity to enhance the movement solutions a child will explore
- Apply effective athlete monitoring techniques to support wellbeing in PE and sport

Leave this workshop feeling empowered to support the physical and psychological needs of young people in education, sport and exercise settings.

Welcome Back!!

We are delighted to pilot a new handball cluster club open to pupils across the Machars Primary Schools.

It is a fun team sport which we are keen to introduce this academic year so why not join us on a Wednesday evening 5.10-6.00pm at the Merrick and give it a go!

It is a great opportunity for children to get active, learn new skills, make friends and have fun.

Day: Wednesdays (Sessions begin from 9th September for a 5-week block)
Time: 5.10-6.00pm
Age: Open to P5-7 pupils
Cost: FREE
Venue: Merrick Centre Games Hall
