Woolpit Steam

Woolpit Steam Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May 2026 featuring: Steam engines, vintage tractors & vintage vehicles

The first Woolpit Steam was held at Grange Farm, Woolpit in 1987, and in many ways captured the spirit of the small village rally of days gone by. By 1996, the show had outgrown its original site, and moved to Warren Farm, Wetherden.

With just three weeks to go the organisers of Woolpit Steam are pleased to announce that the Burrell scenic road locomotive “Ex Mayor” will be joining us for the first time following a major rebuild to mark its centenary. Another fresh and equally impressive newcomer will be the 1909 Burrell road locomotive belonging to Terry and Val Maynard. This engine is also newly restored having returned to the UK in 1973 following a working life in New Zealand.

In the pre–1930 tractor section we are hoping to have on display a 1919 Saunderson Model G which was supplied new by George Thurlow, Stowmarket to a farmer in Wyverstone, and has not been seen in Suffolk for over thirty years.

For the stationary engine enthusiast the section is likely to number 85 in total with several being over 100 years old. Many will be presented doing what they were originally designed for by driving an array of mills, pumps, dynamos and other machinery. This section includes the Bamford line shafting display where one engine is powering multiple machines for preparing feed for livestock.

The wood sawing display which has examples of steam, tractor and stationary engine driven saws producing planks, posts and fire wood will remind people how things used to be done. Nearby a venerable 1928 Caterpillar crawler will be put to work leveling soil. Anybody who witnessed the earthmoving display last year will know what an amazing sight and sound it is.

A varied display of vintage cars, motorcycles, commercial and military vehicles will complete the display of pre 1965 equipment.

For the bargain hunters looking for a gift or that elusive spare part there are over 40 craft, trade and auto jumble stalls to tempt you. There is also hot and cold food, licensed bar and ice creams.

Mike Rule will be providing his ever popular Steam Gallopers and big wheel. These will be supported by side stalls, Punch & Judy and a full ring programme on both days to keep the family entertained.

Woolpit Steam rally is taking place on 31st May & 1st June at Warren Farm, Wetherden, IP14 3JX, by kind permission of R & P Baker. Gates are open from 09:00 – 17:00 on both days and admission is Adults £8.00 Saturday / £9.00 Sunday, and children £2.00 on either day.(please note we are unable to accept card payments) Car parking is free and the show is easily accessible from Junction 47a on the A14 eastbound, or Junction 49 west bound.

With just a week and a half to go, the organisers of Woolpit Steam are
pleased to announce the return of the 1908 Marshall traction engine
“Old Nick” which is appearing following a lengthy overhaul. Used for
contract thrashing in Oxfordshire until 1940 and then for wood sawing
in Yorkshire, it was acquired by the late Ernie Eagle in 1986, and is
now being shown by his son Andrew.
In the pre–1930 tractor section we are hoping to have on display a
1916 International Mogul tractor which worked in the Saxmundham
area. Slightly newer, but equally uncommon is the 1935 Lanz model L
which was new to a farmer in Wyverstone and should be returning to
the county for the first time in nearly 60 years.

amazing sight and sound it is.
