Through a bit of good fortune we got a tip off about some bits of big furniture and useful craft materials that needed a new home. We met with the lovely bunch who gifted us some of their shop and were really happy to give it a new purpose here.

We are reaching out to ask for your help with a significant project: building a neighbourhood inventory.

This “wish list” will identify the resources our community needs during emergencies, based on our goal to acquire these items and establish a lasting centre for community and climate resilience. Sounds cool right? Hopefully!

Here’s a bit more about what we’re doing and we’re looking residents to get involved!

A COOL PLAN FOR HOT DAYS

As heatwaves become more common in the UK, we want to shape a community-focused response for Stockport.

Join us and the Network on May 19th for a workshop exploring how we can keep Edgeley cool.

Together, we will develop a local plan that:

- Reflects on recent heat events in Edgeley.
- Explores how heat affects our bodies, homes, and neighborhood.
- Identifies actions and infrastructure to support our neighbours.

This is part of our ongoing work to develop a resilience hub - a place for everyday care and connection that is also equipped to support the community during climate-related shocks.

Not only are the community curtains beautiful and bespoke (cheers m) they are being sprayed to be super safe for community hub resilience in perpetuity!

When we develop creative ideas into tangible and legacy projects and opt to use independent creatives instead of off the peg functional product’s,part of the fun for us is working through all the extra knobbly bits needed to make things right as well as good! Due diligence. ✍️

What happens when communities pool their spaces, resources and local talent together? Fun happens that’s what! (and a heap of other things…)

Building connections with brilliant activators elsewhere locally is what we seek to do asked if we’d take part in a community led idea! We jumped at the chance to collaborate and create a meaningful workshop learning and making fabric hearts for our garden and local park with creative practitioner - inspired by a project elsewhere- the resulting chit chat and laughter from the room worth its weight in gold. Thanks for bring it together with us neighbours and glad we could host and pay local creatives to make it come to life!
