Celebrate the start of spring with a visit to see the spectacular display of snowdrops and aconites nestled around the historic ruins at Benington Lordship. The snowdrops have naturalised around the moat a

nd snowdrop walk of the inner bailey. There is a collection of named varieties which are showcased amongst hellebores and other winter flowering bulbs and shrubs. Benington Lordship is a private family home and its garden is open to the public for selected days between February and August. The history of the site can be traced back to Saxon times and the current house and garden are built on the site of a Norman motte and bailey castle of which there are many visible remains. The house dates from the 1700s and boasts a magnificent neo Norman folly which was added in 1838. The garden comprises a rose garden, walled kitchen garden with wildflower meadow, herbaceous border, orchard and ponds, with unspoilt panoramic views over surrounding parkland.
