Copied …. 🙏🏼
“What just happened to us!?” she said. “What... Just… Happened?” Maria (not her real name) attended my OM Gong Sound Prayer (sound journey) for the first time.
“Have you attended other sound baths?” I inquired.
“Yes, but nothing like this.”
“Tell me what you’re asking. I don’t quite understand.”
“I don’t understand either, and I want to. I can’t put it into words. We went somewhere, but I don’t know where. Where did we go?”
“Let me be clear: YOUR experience is not necessarily everyone’s experience. WE didn’t go somewhere, YOU went somewhere. It’s personal. Every sound bath is personal. No two people have the exact same experience. That variety does NOT invalidate your experience, nor theirs. It’s about YOUR consciousness, your imagination, your susceptibility to sound.”
“How did you do that?” Maria asked.
“I’m not sure how to explain. Words fail me too. They are inadequate to the task at hand, but I’ll try …
“My goal is, always, for attendees to enter an altered state of consciousness. Preferably a mystical experience, an extended moment when they and Source – The Mystery, Big Mind, Big Heart -- connect in some way. Where the Presence of The Divine is intuited, is felt in heart-mind. I think that’s maybe what happened to you.
“I am, in a sense, entrained to go into an altered state-of-consciousness when I begin to play my instruments. I call it a state of wordless non-beseeching prayer, a state of Grace and Gratitude. Perhaps it can be described as a feeling of ascending and descending energies.
“I’m not in a trance. I’m not lost. I know who I am and where I am and who is present and what I am doing and why I am doing it. Yet I step outside of normal time & space. And it seems I’m sometimes able to transmit that sacred energy to others, like you.
“My OM Gong Sound Prayer is a ritual, and one definition of ritual it stepping outside of ordinary mundane time. I do that myself, and by doing so I somehow offer permission to others, by example. Some participants go into an altered state too.
“I like to think we touch the Untouchable. Maybe we get a little taste of Eternity, which is a rare experience. The sounds I make convey that energy. I’m able to conjure a sonic portal that opens some hearts and minds. You, apparently, were one such person tonight. You visited a realm you didn’t know was available to you. That makes me happy.
“It’s important that you understand this paradox: *I* did not do this to you. *You* did this to you. True, I created sonic architecture embedded with meaning and intent and energy as best I could. You, my friend, stepped through the portal into that Chapel Of Sacred Sounds and visited the wonders on the other side. Yes, I did have a role in your experience, but it’s still yours.
“Not everyone got what you got. And that’s ok. I offered what I offer, you got what you got.”

A few other attendees shared their experiences, from seeing colors to remembering things they’d not thought of for decades, to falling asleep, to watching me with eyes open the whole time, to feeling “healing energy.
BOTTOM LINE: What I (we) do is often a Mystery. It’s sometimes magical. Mystical. Other-worldly. Transcendent. Sometimes powerful and life-changing. Door-opening. Mind-blowing. Heart-blossoming. Even, sometimes, healing.
It is my deep honor to embody such states on a regular basis, and to facilitate the possibility in others.
Sound work is my life’s work. I am it, and it is me. We are One.
