BUG HOME BUILDERS WANTED.
3pm, 25th October.

A message from friends of Riverside Park.

We have some great news. Our grant application to the council has been successful! This means that we can hire a professional ecologist to carry out a detailed survey of the old pitch & putt course north of Woodmill lane.

The area needs a management plan but before that we need a much better understanding of what is there.

To complement this we will also be organising a community survey event, probably some time in May.

Building bug homes.

We also received some money to create homes for bees, butterflies, moths, and generally any insects that want to wander in, to help increase the biodiversity of the park. We are doing this as a community event. So we need your help.

3 pm Saturday 25th October

The car park at the rear of Bitterne Park Social Club

Manor Farm Road

We will be creating bug homes using gabions filled with various materials for insects to shelter in, Wood piles, and pollen rich plants ready for next year.

We need:

Helpers.

Please bring gloves and wear appropriate clothing. We will be putting gabions together, filling them with appropriate materials, securing them to the ground, creating log piles, planting plants, and mulching them to give them a good start.

Materials.

Straw, twigs, mulch, leaves, broken bricks, broken crockery/pots, logs, etc. Anything to create small spaces for bugs to shelter in.

Please spread the word.

Thank you all traders, community groups, charities, musicians, and everyone who came along for making Trifest such a great event.

It mostly went very well but there are a couple of things we could improve on, no, unfortunately the heavy shower isn't one of them. The ice cream van didn't show up which disappointed all of us, but couldn't be solved at such late notice.

Secondly, We have a way of removing the festival litter at the end of the day which was not followed. A mistake made by a small group of exhausted volunteers (a call for more help please) By the time the problem was noticed all the available vehicles had left and we couldn't clear it.

This resulted in several sacks being left around the bin nearest Cobden Bridge. We have apologised to the park staff for creating the problem. we will not make the same mistake next year.

On a brighter note we haven't done the figures yet but we are fairly confident we have enough money to return next year.

If anyone is interested in joining the team to plan the festival throughout the year then drop us a line to have a chat.

Thanks,

Paul
