If you’re coming to Yarndale on the Sunday there are still a few workshops available to book. If you’re a knitter then there are 2 to choose from.

You could discover the magic of double knitting: a reversible colourwork technique creating two mirrored fabrics in one in an Introduction to Double Knitting with Ann Kingstone. In this beginner-friendly introduction, Ann teaches a seamless Italian cast-on, practical ways to manage two yarns with confidence, and methods for producing crisp, tidy selvedges — equipping you with the skills to start knitting fully reversible projects.

Or you could turn your hand to a different approach to pattern in knitted fabric in Knit Mitred Squares with Anniken Allis, Yarn Addict by Anniken Allis. Mitred squares are fun to knit and easy to adapt to a variety of projects and a perfect way of using up left over yarn. You will learn how to knit a mitred squares and how to pick up stitches and knit a second mitred square onto your first one. You will start a mitred square place mat during the class.

Definitely a lovely way to end your Yarndale weekend.

Do you know how to use Foundation Crochet Stitches? If not and it’s something you’d like to have a go at then there are a few spaces left on Sharon Carter of Dragon Hill Studio’s workshop. The workshop is on Saturday afternoon and you’ll learn this extremely useful technique which allows you to work the chain and first row simultaneously, resulting in an even, stretchy foundation. You will also learn how to combine different stitches for a ripple pattern, mesh pattern etc , as well as how to easily add stitches at the end of a row, make buttonholes, and create handles. Now that sounds like a great way to finish the afternoon at Yarndale.

As the Bayeux Tapestry comes to Britain for the first time in almost 1,000 years it’s a reminder of the longevity and brilliance of wool. The Bayeux Tapestry is an 11th-century artwork that tells the story of events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. It’s actually an embroidery, made of dyed wool stitched onto a bleached linen background. Imagine all those wool works of art now being stitched still being around in 1000 years.

The furthest travelled dots this week have come all the way from South Africa and the nearest have come from Skipton. We still have many parcels to open so expect the number to continue to grow. What a tribute to Yayoi Kusama this is going to be.

Dot total is 11,503 and yes we’ve counted every single one that you’ve sent. Well the parcels that we’ve opened and there are lots still to go. This week we’ve had dots from all over the world including a whopping parcel from Susan all the way from Sydney, Australia and a parcel from Tuula in Finland. Thank you for every single dot made.

We’re so sad to hear this. Yayoi’s Obliterarion Room was the inspiration for this year’s Worldwide Creative Project. Our woolly dotty installation will be a tribute to Yayoi and her many colourful creations.

Japanese polka dot artist Yayoi Kusama dies aged 97

Her colourful creations drew large crowds and fetched some of the highest ever prices for a female artist.
