Tune in tonight to Mainly Folk 8-10pm on local DAB and www.brooklandsradio.co.uk/mainlyfolk and then on MixCloud available 24/7. The first hour is a Sidmouth Folk Festival special featuring artists playing there this summer.

Listen out for a chat with Pete Morton who discusses bringing his Sailor Swift persona to Sidmouth. Pete is of course well known for writing and performing songs which have become standards in folk clubs. He has always been a great social commentator and his Sailor Swift is a friendly ghost that haunts a local pub. It is a perfect vehicle for songs and conversations that span the last 400 years with a strong dose of humour.

As ever thanks Bev Harris for putting this all together.

On Sunday 2nd August, 8pm we welcome the brilliant Eddi Reader back to Sidmouth.

From her earliest years playing the folk clubs of western Scotland and learning how to street sing across Europe (like her hero Edith Piaf) Eddi’s path soon lead her to a professional career in music as a backing singer for Eurythmics and Gang of Four. Her band Fairground Attraction had huge international success and number one hits with ‘Perfect’ and debut album ‘First of a Million Kisses’ which stormed the charts in the late 1980’s.

She has won Brit Awards, been awarded four honorary degrees, an MBE, sung to millions on some of the world’s greatest concert and festival stages and collaborated with a host of stars across a myriad of genres including Folk, Jazz, Pop, World, Punk and even Classical work with various orchestras.

‘One of my favourite singers of all time.’ Jools Holland
