🌳🚧 60 SECOND UPDATE - ABBEY FOREGATE POCKET PARK!

Things are really starting to take shape at the Abbey Foregate Pocket Park! 👀🌿

Here’s a quick 60-second update from Martin on site today - the groundwork is progressing, and you can really start to get a feel for how this space is going to be transformed. 🧱🌱

There’s still plenty to do, but every day brings us a step closer to turning what was a neglected corner of Abbey Foregate into a green, welcoming space for the community. ❤️

And believe us… it’s going to look very different in the coming days ahead!

🎥 Watch this 60-second update below and let us know what you think!

🚨 THIS SAYS IT ALL…

A car breaks down outside Shrewsbury Railway Station and, within moments, traffic is forced to do what we’ve been saying for months - use the virtually redundant cycle lane just to get past.

Whatever final option Shropshire Council ultimately chooses for Castle Foregate, surely one thing is now obvious:

👉 It’s time to get on with the necessary physical works.

Whether the final layout becomes two normal traffic lanes (which we are calling for), or the alternative option involving a bus/taxi/emergency services lane, the existing layout - including the cycle lane and floating bus stop - needs changing.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about having a road layout that actually works when something as everyday as one vehicle breaking down happens.

Tonight’s video demonstrates perfectly just how little resilience there is in the current arrangement.

We’ve debated it.
We’ve consulted.
We’ve counted the traffic.
Thousands of people have made their views known.

Now let’s get on with it.

🚗 🚕 🚌 🚑 🚒

What do you think - is it time for the Council to stop delaying and start the physical work? 👇

🚨 ROAD CLOSURES INTO NOVEMBER – CASTLE FOREGATE BRIDGE WORKS EXTENDED! 🚨

An important update for anyone travelling into or around Shrewsbury town centre over the next couple of months.

Network Rail’s maintenance work on the railway bridges at Castle Foregate and Great Western Way has now been extended until 8 November 2026.

The work had originally been due to finish this month, but additional steelwork repairs were identified once the project was underway, meaning more time is needed to complete the repairs safely.

👉 IMPORTANT: The roads will remain OPEN to traffic during the daytime.

However, a number of further overnight and early-morning road closures will be required on Castle Foregate, Cross Street and Howard Street.

🚧 REMAINING EARLY-MORNING CLOSURES

12.30am – 7am on Sundays:

📅 Sunday 20 September
📅 Sunday 27 September
📅 Sunday 4 October
📅 Sunday 11 October
📅 Sunday 18 October
📅 Sunday 25 October
📅 Sunday 1 November
📅 Sunday 8 November

These Sunday closures provide the longest period when no trains are running, allowing the remaining steel repairs to be carried out safely.

The final three Sunday closures will also be used to begin dismantling the scaffolding.

🚧 OVERNIGHT CLOSURES – 8pm to 6am

For installation of the new pigeon-proofing mesh:

📅 Monday 28 September – Thursday 1 October
📅 Monday 5 October – Thursday 8 October
📅 Monday 12 October – Thursday 15 October

For dismantling of the scaffolding:

📅 Sunday 18 October – Monday 19 October
📅 Sunday 25 October – Monday 26 October
📅 Sunday 1 November – Monday 2 November
📅 Sunday 8 November – Monday 9 November

So although the maintenance programme is officially extended until 8 November, the final overnight closure will run into the morning of Monday 9 November.

The remaining works include:

🔧 Additional steelwork repairs
🎨 Cleaning, repairs and repainting of the bridge structures
🐦 Installation of the long-awaited pigeon-proofing mesh underneath the bridges
🏗️ Phased removal of the scaffolding

Signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures, and access for emergency services will be maintained.

🚶 The footpath along Castle Foregate will also remain closed for the duration of the works, with pedestrians directed to the footpath on the opposite side of the road.

Please SHARE this with anyone who regularly travels through Castle Foregate so they’re aware of the revised programme. 🚗🚌🚕
