A delicious matinee for your calendar that takes away the disappointment of a fallow summer.

September 13 — Limited tickets left for what will be a beautiful matinee later this year.

We are thrilled to welcome back to Shrewsbury.

The last time they joined us was November 2018 at St Alkmund's Church, an evening show supported by our friend .

This time, Haiku return in a different light at our new space, The Darwin Room, Shrewsbury Library, presenting a special afternoon matinee, with support from

For those discovering them afresh, Haiku Salut are the Derbyshire-born trio of Gemma Barkerwood, Sophie Barkerwood and Louise Croft. Self-described as “instrumental dream-pop-post-folk-neo-everything,” their music is intricate, cinematic and entirely wordless, glockenspiel, accordion, piano, electronics and found sounds woven into something both playful and profound.

Drawing inspiration from composers such as Yann Tiersen and Benoît Charest, alongside the delicate experimentalism of Múm, they create immersive soundscapes that feel like miniature films unfolding in real time.

Osgled (Welsh for amplitude) draws on a rich blend of experimental sounds, combines ethereal, atmospheric layers woven together with dreamy and evocative vocals.

The Matinee will be bookended by a DJ set by friend and local artist .

Expect lounge-inspired cinematic textures.

Expect quiet euphoria.

Expect that gentle shift in atmosphere that only certain artists can bring.

An afternoon to sink into those beanbags again.

An afternoon to drift.

Something for the Curious.

Event 3.0 — Season 4.0 ‘For the Curious’

+
@ The Unitarian, Shrewsbury

An evening full of fuzz, glitches, radio static, sonic textures, and spiritual sounds that seemed to leave the room collectively reset.

Dylan Henner and Ibukun Sunday created something deeply immersive, an atmosphere drifting between ambient meditation, experimentation, and soulful electronic therapy. Music that invited stillness, reflection, and gentle release within one of Shrewsbury’s most resonant and historic spaces.

It felt like the perfect way to sign off before our summer pause.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, volunteered, shared posts, bought tickets, or simply believed in what SY Gigs is trying to create. These events only exist because people continue to show kindness, curiosity, and care for independent DIY music and community culture.

Special gratitude needs to go to the wider network of people, businesses, artists, and community supporters across the town who helped spread the word and make this event such a success. It never goes unnoticed and I am personally grateful.

We remain deeply committed to a not-for-profit model that places community, connection, accessibility, and wellbeing at its heart.

In a world that can often feel overstimulating chaotic and disconnected, evenings like this remind me how powerful shared listening can be.

Huge thanks again to everyone behind the scenes who helped shape the atmosphere and make the night possible. You know who you are and I truly appreciate you ❤️✌️

✨ We return on September 13th with a special matinee event in the Charles Darwin Room at .

This next event is already over 60% sold, so please don’t delay if you’d like to join us for another afternoon of gentle healing through sound. The bean bags will return.

Morning…. any help sharing tonight’s event would be hugely appreciated.

These concerts are completely not-for-profit and created for the community, bringing adventurous music into some of Shrewsbury’s most beautiful historic spaces.

Tonight promises an evening of immersive electronic and ambient choral textures within the incredible resonance of The Unitarian Church.

We still have a few tickets remaining, and if the event hasn’t sold out by 5pm we’ll happily accept walk-ups on the door this evening.

Thank you, as always, for helping make these gatherings possible.

An intimate, deep listening journey through ambient electronica, expansive soundscapes, delicate textures and immersive space.
