Happy Summer Solstice ๐ŸŒ…โœจ

While most of the world was asleep, we were climbing Shropshire's highest hill under a blanket of stars, heading for a sunrise we'll never forget.

โฐ 2am alarms
๐Ÿฅพ 10km on the trails
๐Ÿ‘ฃ Almost 20,000 steps before 8am

And what a morning it turned out to be...

The joined us on Brown Clee Hill, live streaming the sunrise as the first light spilled across the Shropshire Hills before interviewing us on the summit. Standing there, watching the longest day of the year begin while knowing that people were sharing that moment from their homes across the region, felt pretty special. ๐ŸŽฅโœจ

But the real magic wasn't being on TV.

๐Ÿ’› Standing on the hill surrounded by an amazing group of women
๐Ÿฆ Listening to the dawn chorus echo across the hills
๐ŸŒ… Watching the landscape wake up in golden light
๐ŸŒฟ Feeling completely present in the moment

There's something incredibly powerful about marking a natural milestone like the summer solstice. It reminds us to slow down, reconnect with nature, and appreciate moments that can't be captured fully by a camera.

For a little while, nothing else mattered except the sunrise.

A proper pinch-me moment and a beautiful way to welcome summer. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ“บ Keep your eyes peeled for us on BBC Midlands Today at 5:30pm today and 6:30pm tomorrow!

๐ŸŒ… Sunrise this morning...
๐ŸŒ„ Sunset tonight...

And we're not done yet... who's joining us for sunset at Stiperstones? โœจ

๐ŸŒ™ What a way to finish the weekend... ๐ŸŒ„

A few weeks ago we headed into the Shropshire Hills for our Full Moon & Sunset Hike, taking in Hope Bowdler Hill, the Battlestones, Caractacus Cave and the summit of Caer Caradoc.

The sunset didn't quite put on the dramatic show we'd hoped for, but honestly, it didn't matter. The real magic was in the evening itself โœจ

We spent the hike chatting, laughing, sharing stories, exploring local history, myths and legends, and watching the landscape slowly change as day turned to night. There were plenty of familiar faces alongside lots of new ones, and by the end of the evening it felt like everyone had known each other for ages.

One thing we hear all the time is: "I'd love to come but I don't know anyone."

The truth? Most people come on their own. Our hikes are friendly, welcoming and relaxed, and you'll be chatting to new people within minutes. Many of the friendships in this community started with someone turning up solo and taking that first step. ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a lovely evening in the hills.

๐ŸŒ… Fancy joining us for one of our upcoming sunset hikes?

DAY 7: Kinlochleven to Fort William ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿด

Our final day on the West Highland Way!

The weather had finally turned. Grey skies, rain in the air, and proper moody Scotland vibes โ€” but thankfully nothing too dramatic. We packed up without too much fuss and made our way out of Kinlochleven, climbing up and into the heart of the Mamores.

This was the only day I had no phone signal, which made me very thankful for my Garmin GPS as backup. Mountain Leader essential kit doing its thing.

And honestly? This was the wilderness and atmosphere weโ€™d been waiting for. Properly away from civilisation, surrounded by mountains, feeling small in the best possible way and completely at one with nature.

The trail stretched ahead in one long line, so there wasnโ€™t much navigating to do. Just one foot in front of the other. Quiet. Steady. Almost meditative. I always find my brain softens in those moments โ€” blissful, serene, peaceful.

Others in the group saidโ€ฆ not so much. Apparently they were thinking about life, snacks, sore feet and everything in between. But maybe thatโ€™s the magic of the mountains too. They have a habit of putting things into perspective.

Eventually we reached the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre for an essential ice cream and toilet stop, before heading into Fort William and finishing at the official end of the West Highland Way.

What a triumph.
What a team.
What an experience.

That evening we headed to The Geographer for a very well-earned dinner, included in the trip. Everyone received their certificate and goodie bag packed with WHW treats โ€” medal, pin badge, stickers, Bounce protein ball, magnet and pen.

Then it was taxi to the hotel, collapse into bed, and quite possibly the best sleep of our lives.

96 miles.
Over 100 miles with all our extras.
Over 200,000 steps.
Countless memories.

Fancy taking on the WHW? Iโ€™ll be running it again and Iโ€™m currently taking expressions of interest. I learned so much from leading it for the first time, and there are lots of exciting improvements I want to bring to the next one.
