Celebrating 75 years of 🌿🥾
To celebrate, we joined , National Nature Reserves, Natural Resources Wales and at Fenn’s, Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses NNR to learn more about the Code, how it’s used in special places like this, and why it’s just as important today as ever.
First published in 1951, the Countryside Code has been helping people explore the outdoors responsibly for generations. At its heart are three simple messages:
Respect everyone.
Protect the environment.
Enjoy the outdoors.
For me, the Code isn’t about limiting adventure — it’s about helping more people feel confident, welcome and connected in nature, while understanding how to care for the places we love. It gives us those small but important reminders: plan ahead, follow signs, stick to paths where needed, take litter home, give wildlife space and be considerate of others.
Whether you’re new to exploring or have years of muddy boots behind you, the Countryside Code helps us all do our bit. Because the more we respect and protect these places, the more people can feel welcome, confident and connected in nature.
Respect the place. Protect the wildlife. Enjoy the adventure. ✨
