We will be racing off to Imagination Island for Summer Term 2 in this action-packed adventure, by Mel Taylor-Bessent.

Race to Imagination Island is the first of a series, and I have a feeling this will be a popular one!

Observers! Dreamers! Inventors! Explorers!
The time has come to crown four new Protectors of Imagination Island.

Do YOU have what it takes to win the Race?

The time has come for four children to be named the new Protectors of Imagination Island. Children all over the world scour the globe in search of lightstreams (portals) to the magical island where anything they imagine comes to life. To become a Protector, they must compete in teams and complete a series of challenges to prove they have what it takes.

Dreamy 10-year-old Luca is afraid of everything, not least the lightstream he stumbles into by accident. Imagination Island is everything that he’s terrified of.
But there’s no way out. So he hits on a plan. Work out how to come LAST, and get sent home. That’s what he really wants. Isn’t it?

Next up for the book clubbers is ‘The Day I Was Erased’ by Lisa Thompson, a fantastic story of family, friendship and finding your place in the world.

Maxwell is always in trouble.

He’s a total menace to his teachers and big sister, but has a soft side, too: he rescued his dog, Monster, from being run over and checks on his elderly neighbour after school.

One day, while looking through a mysterious cabinet of curiosities, Maxwell finds himself erased from his life: it’s as if he’s never been born.

At first, being able to walk around without being yelled at is great, but Maxwell starts to miss his old life.

And, if he’d never existed, then he wouldn’t have swooped Monster out of the path of that car...

What a start to the new term at Read It! Children’s Book Club! The bookclubbers were greeted not only with their shiny new books, but also some magic wish feathers and bookmarks sent from the wonderful Julie Pike, along with a personal card to them all. They were so excited and totally swept away with the opening chapters of Flame Chasers.

Some of our bookclubbers had the best morning at the Ropetackle Centre with Kirsty Applebaum and Thomas Taylor, creating stories, exploring a range of amazing beachcombing finds and asking some brilliant questions! They were absolutely enthralled and loved being able to meet ‘real-life’ authors and have their books signed afterwards!

A superb event from Chapter 34 bookshop.

We will be kicking off the Autumn term at Read It! Children’s Book Club with the brilliant Peanut Jones and the Illustrated City by Rob Biddulph, aka Draw With Rob!

Some legends are born, some are drawn...

Drawing feels like magic to Peanut Jones. But art can’t fix her problems. Her dad has gone missing, and she’s stuck in a boring new school. Until the day she finds a unique pencil turbo-charged with special powers. Suddenly she’s pulled into a world packed with more colour, creativity, excitement and danger than she could ever have imagined. And maybe, just maybe, she might find out what happened to her dad.

The first title in the series, this imaginative adventure from the creative genius that is Rob Biddulph, fizzes with magic, danger, friendship and art!

Check out our new video! What a year it’s been at Read It! Children’s Book Club, with such a fabulous bunch of bookworms. We have packed in so much fun and laughter along the way, with brilliant books, arts and crafts, many, many biscuits, a trip to see Louie Stowell at the Brighton Festival and an invite to Jenny McLachlan’s book launch! Can’t wait until we return in September! Thank you to Kelly at Chapter 34 for hosting us and to Carmen for being equally as enthusiastic about books as we are!
