Did you know that today is Library Lovers Day? 📚❤️

So, this is a Shipston Library appreciation post 🫶 We truly love our local branch of Warwickshire Library & Information Service

Last year, we had pop-up poetry performances at the library as well as local author Sue Newgas' children's event. And in 2024, Emily Lloyd-Gale captured audiences with her stories of Mighty Maurice.

This year? We're still planning our programme and exploring options with local partners — stay tuned 👀

💌 Love letters, a world war, and their real-life story...

This weekend, hear from Rev John Horton as he discusses his book, which chronicles the wartime correspondence of his parents.

‘Behind the Wire: A Prisoner of War in N**i Germany’ tells the story of husband and wife, Alan and Peggy, through their letters while Alan was as prisoner of war in World War Two.

Find out more about Shipston-on-Stour and District Local History Society's event below 👇

Saturday, 10th January at The Townsend Hall - we look forward to hearing Rev John Horton (retired) tell his parents' WWII tale that was inked into their P.O.W. letters.

Tickets for Shipston History Talk + Book Signing | WWII Love Letters from Behind the Wire are available from The Richard Harvey Collection Ltd, Eventbrite and on the door.

Thrilled to have won ‘quirkiest tree’ at St. Edmunds Church Christmas Tree Festival 🎄📚

We won with a slightly non-traditional tree – made entirely of books (which did originally come from trees 🫣) — big thanks to everyone who voted for us

And congratulations to the Bookfest Committee members who made it possible ❤️

Have thoughts on Shipston Bookfest 2025? Or interested in volunteering? 📚

We’d love to hear from you! Join us tomorrow at 7pm at The George Townhouse for our 2025 Festival Review Meeting. It’s a chance to share your thoughts on how this year’s festival went and to hear about how the feedback we've had will shape future festivals.

🗓 Plus, save the date: our Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 24 November, 7pm at The George Townhouse. We will discuss and vote on committee roles — the team that helps make Shipston Bookfest happen.

Everyone’s welcome at either or both meetings — it’s a great way to get involved, meet fellow book lovers, and be a part of something that brings joy to the community!
