Shepton Snowdrops

Shepton Snowdrops A project from Shepton Mallet, Somerset, UK to commemorate James Allen (1830 - 1906)

Shepton Mallet, in the heart of Somerset, was home to James Allen, an amateur horticulturist and the first person ever to breed new varieties of snowdrop from wild plants - a feat which earned him the nickname of the 'Snowdrop King'

The Snowdrop Festival is a vibrant not-for-profit community project to plant Shepton Mallet with hundreds of thousands of snowdrop bulbs, and to restore the Allen fam

ily memorial in the town's cemetery, in order to celebrate James Allen's and town's place in gardening history

Today is World Bee Day 🐝🌼

How many plants in your garden are good for pollinators, especially bees and butterflies? Tell us in the comments what you plant to help!

From wildflowers to herbs, every bee-friendly plant helps build a stronger, more balanced garden. Even small changes, like adding lavender, letting dandelions flower, or planting nectar-rich blooms can make a real difference.

Did you know it’s Water Saving Week? 💧

A great reminder that small changes in our gardens can make a big difference. Why not install a water butt (or two!) to collect rainwater, or even create a small pond to support garden wildlife.

Saving water isn’t just good for the environment it helps build more resilient, wildlife-friendly gardens too.

Every drop counts and your garden (and its visitors) will thank you.
