This week we were so lucky to host the lovely Sarah Lisa Wilkinson at our guest night at Alder.
We were so entranced from the outset that none of team actually managed to take a photo!
As she roared and soared through her beautiful and fizzing takes on some absolute classic fairytales, (Baba Yaga, Bluebeard, Tatterhood and The missing brush) the room was profoundly still. Her re-imaginings queered endings, got very sexy and empowered the female characters in a way that was so compelling and yet deeply faithful to the meaning of these tales.
SO often our first contact with these stories is a stilted patriarchal version of an early 20th century text, and to fully represent a modern audience with light humour and raw feeling shows real creative skill.
At the end were all so chill! There is nothing like collective imagining of the mythic landscape and to hold an audience like that, listening and giving to your energy to them is a very moving gift Sarah Lisa has, that we are thankful for - cathartic in the true sense.
Minds blown and another cracking night at the Story Forge.
