Saturday's 5th Sheffield Christian Film & Media Festival was a resounding success. Thank you to everyone who submitted a film, presented a talk, helped with organising the event, or attended the day. There was a great atmosphere in the room, with enthusiastic support shown for all of the films that were screened and great questions asked of the film makers in the Q&A sessions.

Congratulations to our award winners who are pictured below with Festival Founder and Director, Louise Johnson (middle):

Timothy Stewart (pictured left) who received both a Festival Panel Award and the Audience Choice Award for his long form documentary 'She Walks A Line'.

Marinella Setti Mantle (pictured right) who received a Festival Panel Award for her short film 'Messiah'.

The final Festival Panel Award went to 'Then As Now', directed by Oliver Murray, who wasn't able to attend the festival in person but will receive his award by post.

In addition to showcasing a diverse selection of films and media projects from Christian creators, SCFF (coming up on Saturday the 18th of October) will include two insightful sessions led by experienced industry professionals. We’re delighted that Jill Bearup will be hosting one of these talks:

You Had TWO JOBS: How to Make a Movie Fight

Fight choreography for film can be a difficult business. What's the concept? What's the goal? Who can you call upon for help? And what are your two jobs? Join YouTuber and Actor Combatant Jill Bearup for discussion, questions, and maybe even a demonstration!

Jill got into stage fighting as a hobby and never looked back. These days you will find her on the internet talking movie fights, costume armour, and fandom. She was born in Northern Ireland but currently lives in England with her husband, her daughter, three cats, and twelve swords (at last count).

Screening at SCFF: God is Good

Director: Ashford Anthony Menezes

An inspiring and thought-provoking story, God is Good beautifully illustrates the struggles and triumphs of a man who learns to navigate his inner turmoil with the support of his devoted partner. It tells the story of Arnold, a successful writer who has developed a tinted view on life due to his experiences and challenges. However, his loving wife serves as his pillar of strength and sees clarity in God's goodness, reminding him of the brighter side of life.

Screening at SCFF 2025: Messiah

Dublin 1742. On the evening of the premiere of Handel's Messiah, God's harshest critic pays a visit to show that whatever wonders His most prized creation is capable of, at heart he is still the same soul that cannot resist temptation.

As well as screening a varied programme of films and media pieces created by Christian filmmakers, next month's festival will also feature a couple of information-packed talks from industry professionals. We're excited that Mike and Rebecca Peacock will be joining us to host one of them:

How to Find Your Own Voice in Film-making

Learn how to uncover and use your strongest gifts and authentic style as a filmmaker. Mike and Rebecca Peacock will share how they discovered their unique voice, both creatively and in production. Hear how they made an award-winning feature on a small budget — and be inspired to develop your own filmmaking identity.

Mike and Rebecca’s debut feature 'The Silver Screen Dreams Café' premiered under Concorde and won multiple awards, including Best Debut Feature at the Athens International Monthly Film Festival and Best Actor at the London Women’s Film Festival. Uniquely, it cast and trained local, uninvested people from Wythenshawe, Manchester. They have had extensive writing, directing and acting careers which they've mixed with social justice, charity work and hope-filled narratives. Their short films Alicija and The Date were nominated at Kino, ModCom, and UK Christian Film Festivals. Mike’s play 'When We Started Singing' won M6 Theatre’s competition and became a short film. His book 'Angel’s Delight' aired on UCB Radio and was a finalist for the prestigious Sandford St Martin Broadcasting Awards.

We would love to meet with filmmakers and hear how SCFF might help you put your films in front of a wider audience, beyond our annual film festival. Join us tonight at 7pm on Zoom for an informal group discussion about what you, as a filmmaker, would want from a distribution offer, and help inform the SCFF team as we explore new ways to help connect Christian filmmakers with Christian film goers.
