Etape du Dales

Etape du Dales Sportives and gravel rides in the Yorkshire Dales in support of the Rayner Foundation 5 July 2026

Running for more than a two decades, the Etape du Dales remains one of the most prestigious sportives in the UK and a top 3 “must do” event for any cyclist. Starting from the picturesque village of Horton in Ribblesdale in the Yorkshire Dales, the event takes on classic climbs through stunning scenery seen in the 2014 Tour de France. The event typically sells out its places for the traditional routes very quickly, so be quick!

Park Rash. Kettlewell. 25% out of the gate.

This is the climb riders ask about. The one with a wall at the start, switchbacks where you hunt for the widest line, and a place in Tour de Yorkshire history. Drag yourself over the top and Coverdale opens up underneath you — possibly the best descent on the route.

Or skip it. The long route lets you take Kidstones Pass instead — 5km longer, 13.8% max, used in the 2014 Tour de France. Still a climb, just not a wall.

Your call. Sunday 5th July.

167km. 3,200m of climbing. Five serious climbs.

This is the 2026 Etape du Dales long route, in numbers, and the new HQ in Settle means proper parking, changing, hot food and a beer at the end of it all!

Two changes for 2026 worth knowing about: the Fleak and Oxnop Scar are out, an extra feed station is in. A challenging ride, made more achievable, without losing its character.

Full route on the website.

Sunday 5th July 2026. Settle, Yorkshire Dales. Three rides. One of the UK's great sportives.

The Etape du Dales is back, with a refreshed route, a new event HQ and an extra feed station for the long ride. 167km if you fancy the full thing. 120km if you want the Yorkshire highlights without the cut-offs. Or take the gravel option and keep the moors to yourself.
