Sun, Songs, and Spectacular Fun : A Grand Day Out at the Scrooby Show!

What a turnout! On Saturday, 5th September, Scrooby burst into life for the annual Horticultural and Craft Show, drawing a bumper crowd well in excess of 200 people for a day filled with laughter, competition, and fantastic community spirit.

From the moment Steve Cordery rang the bell at 1:00 PM to open the bar—perfectly timed to Dave Pratter strumming the opening chords of The Monkees’ ‘I’m a Believer’—the energy never dipped!

A Feast for the Senses Visitors were spoiled for choice with mouth-watering burgers, sizzling paella, ice cream, and a Village Hall packed to the brim with show-stopping homemade cakes, quiches, and cream teas.

Over in the marquee, local talent shone brightly. Every single craft table was snapped up, showcasing incredible handmade work alongside breathtaking displays of home-grown fruit, vegetables, and artwork.

Four-Legged Friends & Fierce Competition The action kicked off with the ever-popular dog show—it might not have been Crufts, but the tail-wagging participants and cheering crowd certainly made it feel like a championship event!

Next came the traditional children's sports day, packed with old-school nostalgia: egg-and-spoon races, sack races, bean-bag balancing, and sprint finishes. The energy reached a fever pitch with an epic, grit-your-teeth tug of war that had the whole field cheering.

Musical Stars & Show Debuts Dave Pratter kept the atmosphere buzzing all afternoon with classic hit after classic hit, but a major highlight came when young Will Canning made his show debut. Will absolutely smashed his performance of Stereophonics’ ‘Dakota’, later delivering a breathtaking duet of ‘Shallow’ with his younger sister Libby that left the crowd spellbound!

Prizes Galore A massive thank you goes to Sally and Alyson, who worked their magic turning generous local donations into stunning hamper prizes. The legendary raffle was a huge hit, offering everything from pub dinners, hotel B&Bs, and art vouchers to football tickets and pamper sessions.

The highlight of the draw was the sensational ‘Super Raffle’. For just a £5 ticket, lucky winners Vanessa and Richard walked away with the ultimate grand prize—a weekend getaway for two to Barcelona!

And the Winner Is... As the afternoon drew to a close at 5:30 PM, all eyes turned to the main stage for the coveted horticultural awards. The prestigious Rose Bowl for the most overall points was proudly awarded to Jane Lincoln after an outstanding display of local gardening skill.
A massive thank you to everyone who organised, exhibited, performed, cooked, or simply came along to support. Scrooby, you truly outdid yourselves!
