Sanquhar Community Centre Update

Sanquhar Community Centre Management Committee were delighted to receive funding of £250.00 from the Upper Nithsdale Community Trust earlier in the year.

The funding has allowed us to buy a new induction hob, pans and further equipment for the kitchen. The kitchen is now looking so much better and is more functional for our groups.

The Community Centre is having a lot of work done lately. There has been a massive clear out in the store rooms and re-organisation which has resulted in us having another ground floor room which can be rented out. LL Cleaning came in and did an amazing job steam cleaning the carpet and so now this room is fresher and safer to rent.

We still have work to do decorating a couple of rooms and can complete these once D&G Council have completed their repairs on the roof.

Sanquhar Community Centre Update
The Management Committee held a meeting in February to kickstart the Community Centre. The meeting was successful in bringing in new people who joined the Committee and signed as Trustees. Our new Bookings officer, Lynn Milligan and Treasurer, Astrid Hewett were welcomed by the attendee’s. New ideas for funding and bringing in new groups were brought to the table and the future of the Community Centre looks a lot brighter.
Sanquhar Community Centre is available for hire, we have a large sports hall and a canteen/kitchen, please contact Lynn Milligan on 07771 661776 or email [email protected].

The Community Centre does not run the classes held at the centre, they are run by individuals, so we really can't do a "What's On" as it is constantly changing. But in a nutshell - Line Dancing is on Tuesday and Thursday nights, Tiny Tunie's Toddler Group is on during Tuesday mornings (when the schools are not on holiday), Wednesday night is Sanquhar Karate Club. They have a page as do the Tiny Tunie's. If you ave any queries regarding the groups you can either email Lynn on the above address or me (Mags Wilson) on [email protected]

We are inviting people who may be interested in helping with the new era of Sanquhar Community Centre.

We are looking for Committee members and Trustee's but we also need people just to attend for new ideas and support.

Lets put the Community back into the Community Centre.

Sanquhar Community Centre Management Committee would like to thank the Communities of Upper Nithsdale for their support and kindness. Since our last article in the Nithsdale Times, we have had folk coming forward to help fill the Treasurers post, join the Committee and bookings for events. I will be calling a meeting in the new year.

The Community Centre may just be an old brick building but without it, people would have no-where to meet and run groups. So it is just as big a part of the Community as the people who use it.

On behalf of Sanquhar Community Centre Management Committee, I would like to wish all of our groups and the people of Upper Nithsdale a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

After nearly ten years of being on the Committee, Lisa Biggar and Alinda MacKie have now stood down as Bookings Officer and Treasurer. We would like to thank them both for all their support over the years and wish them both well for the future.

THE SANQUHAR COMMUNITY CENTRE COMMITTEE NOW HAS AN OPENING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP WITH THE ACCOUNTS.
WE ALSO NEED MORE PEOPLE TO JOIN THE COMMITTEE AND SIGN UP AS TRUSTEE’S.
THE ACCOUNTS ARE NOT COMPLICATED AND ONLY NEED ABOUT 4 HOURS A MONTH.
THERE IS NO COMMITMENT AS A TRUSTEE, WE JUST NEED TO FILL OUR QUOTA WITH OSCR THE SCOTTISH CHARITIES REGISTER.

Sanquhar Community Centre Management Committee are delighted to receive funding from Dumfries & Galloway Council – Nithsdale Area Committee Discretionary Budget of £1.200.00. The funding will help with the on-going utility costs at the Community Centre.
