Halsetown Summer Fete and Festival

It won't be a surprise to many that there will not be a Halsetown Summer Fete and Festival this year. This is due to a lack of time and volunteers, increased cost to everything, and the success being so dependent on the weather which often turns out to be inclement. This was certainly the case (to the hour I might add!) for the fete last year. We ran at a substantial loss in 2022 regardless of our many generous sponsors and supporters. We just simply cannot sustain an event run by volunteers under these circumstances. The Committee will instead look at perhaps a few smaller closed gatherings which will be just family, friends and neighbours for the foreseeable future. We are sorry to disappoint anyone who looks forward to this event every year. We thank everyone for the kind and generous support in all the previous years. And perhaps some day in the not too distant future, someone else will want to take the reigns and continue the tradition. Take care everyone. And thank you.

Sorry folks, Tug O' War is off for tonight. Covid, weather, work, the list goes on. We are gutted but know it's the right call for this year. But the BBQ will still be hot Chernobyl Children's Life Line St Ives link, the beer will still be cold St Ives Cider, Looper is geared up to perform and The Islanders are set to get us dancing the rest of the night away. The Mayor's Cup might be back on the shelf for a year but we'll be back with bigger and better ideas next year. Cllr Kirsty Arthur.

Tug O' War begins at 6pm. The Mayor's Cup will be presented by our fabulous Mayor herself Cllr Kirsty Arthur. The winner also receives a £200 bar tab to enjoy the rest of the evening with Live Music from loopertheband, (Ralph Heseltine), The Islanders, Seb West. Still time to enter your team of up to 7. Music until 10:30 pm. Hot food, cold drink. Free entry event. £2 Parking. Hot food. Cold drinks. Sure to be a fund Saturday evening!

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR NEXT WEEKEND:

PARKING: There is parking on the fete field for £2 per car. This applies to Saturday evening as well as Sunday day. We hope to fit in over 100 cars on the fete field but have organised a FREE OVERFLOW parking in the old fete field (the one behind the pub customer car park). It just means you have to walk to the fete field. There will be caution signs for motorists to hopefully slow everyone down and make them awares of pedestrians this weekend.

Sunday morning starts at 11am with a few words from our Master of Ceremonies . His late father Keith Barron was a great supporter of the village and fete. We are very lucky to have Jamie now support the fete just as much as his father did. The Leader of Cornwall Council Cllr Linda Taylor - Leader of Cornwall Council will also be in attendance on Sunday and will say a few words at the opening. Thank you to Vaughan Bennett and Penhalwyn Trekking Centre, School & Livery for organising the fancy dress horse parade. We are fortunate to have some amazing performances from St Ives Concert Band, Pensans Morris, bordering on morris and Phoenix Singers - St. Ives & Hayle.

Our Fun Dog Show beginning at 2:30pm have a couple new categories this year with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place rosettes for each category St Ives Veterinary Surgery:

2. Best Crossbreed
3. Young Handlers (participation rosettes for everyone)
4. Best Rescue
5. Dog with the Waggiest Tail
6. Most Handsome Boy
7. Prettiest Girl

11. Best Fancy Dress
12. Dog the Judges Would Most Like to Take Home
