Happy Beltane, the first of May… Summertime, some would say. :) We had a lovely sunny afternoon in St. Ives after dropping off a new batch of pots to The Cornish Pantry on Fore Street. The sun has been shining, people are out on the water and the days feel long and full of warmth.
Stick around for some relaxed sounds from Porthmeor sparkling in the sunshine.

All the weather today, blistering sunshine and calm skies to super heavy hail (watch until the end, warning it's a bit loud). Breakfast meeting on Porthgwidden and some lovely catch-ups which we seemed to time well as we had mainly blue skies. Back to the studio for customer kiln unloading and prep for tomorrow's lessons before the temperature dropped and so much hail came down it turned the estuary white! There were even a couple of rainbows but Angela was too busy enjoying them to take a photo. We had all the seasons and it is proof once again that you need your coats when going outside at this time of year ;)

Yesterday was a day of candlestick holders. Some days a good idea can flow through and all 3 lessons made some awesome candlestick holders.
Half term is in full swing after a very lovely and busy Valentine's weekend when we had lots of great couples giving pottery wheel-throwing a go and we were amazed there was no Ghosting!
We have a couple of spaces left this week so if you are looking for something fun and messy to try contact us through our website. The weather is still a bit wintery but our studio is lovely and warm and out of the rain so you can have a good memorable experience even when it's pouring outside.

30 years ago, a young Angela trotted off to college in Kings Lynn to start her ceramic journey. As soon as she got on her first potter's wheel she fell in love with it and wanted to pursue it.
Her first summer job was doing what she does now, giving taster sessions in a little pottery workshop in Norfolk.

After suffering a life-changing accident in her first year of university and transferring to Loughborough to complete her degree, she didn't think she would be able to be a potter anymore.
An injured right hand meant physio, some soul-searching, and retraining in something else… floristry.
So, quite a few side quests later, we moved to St. Ives to open a toy and craft shop in 2014. Then in 2017 we got a vintage wheel from a local ceramist and began teaching pottery lessons, moving over to Hayle in 2020.

So do what you love, there might be a few diversions but if it's something you are meant to do you will find the path eventually. If little Angela knew when first heading off to college that 30 years later she would have her own studio in Cornwall doing what she trained to do, using a wheel with such heritage, surrounded by such beautiful places and people, she probably would not have believed it.

We had a late night and an early morning prepping some of our items for the kiln. As always we have more fun test products and glazes than we probably should, but there are a few future core products continuing their slow journey now safely in the kiln. Also a few things that various customers have said they would like have made their way in. A prayer to the kiln gods earlier to give us a successful fire today so we can share some items soon…
