St Ives Shanty Shout

St Ives Shanty Shout The festival name comes from the Cornish tradition of singing sessions in Pubs.

St Ives Shanty Shout started in 2016 with a small handful of groups singing in The Castle Inn. This proved to be very popular and many groups showed interest in coming to the next one so we had to do it again in 2017 and make it bigger. We now work with our Charity partner - The Edward Hain Centre (Charity Number: 1200936) - to bring the annual event to the town in late November each year. With sp

onsorship and support from local businesses we are able to invite Kimber's Men from Yorkshire, to sing at multiple venues in the town as well as the many groups from across Cornwall and the South West. Our venues are central and the Shanty groups come in a diverse range of sizes and styles. Whether you like your singers in Civvies, dressed as Sailors or even Pirates there should be something special for you.

Thanks to The Rusty Tubs for mentioning us in their recent blog

What makes a shanty festival unforgettable? For The Rusty Tubs, it’s not just scale or a pretty harbour, but energy, heart, adventure, and the moments that turn a good weekend into a lasting memory. From Falmouth to Oostende, these are some of the festivals that have left their mark on us.

A big Shout of Thanks to the 250+ singers from over 30 groups, the volunteer collectors (with Fred Thomas aka 'Betty' and Pilchard The Pirate), our sound engineers and for everyone who came along and listened/sang/donated last weekend, helping us raise £4627.91 for the Edward Hain Centre.

The event would not have been possible without the sponsorship from St Austell Brewery and the support of the venues The Bier Huis Grand Cafe, The Golden Lion, Harbour View House, The Lifeboat Inn, Pedn Olva, the Pilchard Press, the Queen's Hotel, The Rum & Crab Shack, Sea of Coffee, Tretho Lounge and The Western Hotel along with support from St Ives Town Council.

Thank you everyone

If you enjoyed our Shanty Shout and would like to donate more or you missed the collection buckets you can still donate online. https://www.stivesshantyshout.co.uk/ and scroll down to the QR code. Thanks

St Ives Shanty Shout was started in 2016 by members of Bamaluz Bootleggers. They invited some friends to come and sing with them and raise some money for a good cause.

Following my previous thank you post I should have mentioned the amazing Edward Hain volunteers who looked resplendent in the purple outfits and stood for hours with their collection buckets at various venues. A huge thank you as well to Betty Stoggs and Pilchard the Pirate who were also resplendent! 🏴‍☠️🎶🎵🏴‍☠️
