📍 City Reflections at Holy Rood Church
More than Windrush explores Black history in Southampton as a story shaped over generations — not defined by a single arrival, but by decades of cultural contribution, creativity and community-building.
Set within the ruins of Holy Rood Church, the projection reflects Southampton’s identity as a port city shaped by global connections. From 1950s jazz through to reggae, sound system culture and grassroots groups, the work highlights how Black creativity has shaped the city’s music, social life and cultural identity.
Created with Community Curator Abdourahman Sanneh, the projection brings together archive material and contemporary perspectives to offer a broader, more inclusive view of Southampton’s past and present.
