There’s something powerful about seeing a place you know told back to you in light.

City Reflections has been about exactly that, revealing Southampton’s stories through projection, sound and scale, and inviting people to see familiar buildings in a completely new way.

At Light Up Trails, everything we create starts with story. Whether we’re working in stunning gardens or in the heart of a city, we’re always asking the same question: how can light help people feel more connected to a place?

We’re really proud to see City Reflections featured as part of SO: Cultured, celebrating the creativity and culture that make this region special. Thank you to Southampton Forward for sharing these stories…Light has a way of bringing people together and that’s what this work is all about…

SO: Cultured | Libby Battaglia
City Reflections launches 18 February

With City Reflections opening soon, we’re spotlighting Libby Battaglia — the creative producer leading this illuminated journey through Southampton’s history.

Across six historic buildings, City Reflections brings together community voices, archival stories and world-class creative production to create a free, public experience that celebrates the city’s resilience, migration stories and sense of place.

It’s designed for anyone who wants to see Southampton in a new light.

We’re delighted to be part of this free light trail during the half-term holidays in Southampton ✨

A beautiful evening walk through the city’s historic buildings, brought to life with fascinating stories and imagery that celebrate Southampton and its people.

Six striking projections. Six stunning backdrops. Created by talented artists, archivists, and community curators.

A chance to see the city you know in a completely new light.

Don’t miss it 💫⭐️

📍 City Reflections at Holy Rood Church

More than Windrush explores Black history in Southampton as a story shaped over generations — not defined by a single arrival, but by decades of cultural contribution, creativity and community-building.

Set within the ruins of Holy Rood Church, the projection reflects Southampton’s identity as a port city shaped by global connections. From 1950s jazz through to reggae, sound system culture and grassroots groups, the work highlights how Black creativity has shaped the city’s music, social life and cultural identity.

Created with Community Curator Abdourahman Sanneh, the projection brings together archive material and contemporary perspectives to offer a broader, more inclusive view of Southampton’s past and present.

Last Christmas, something quietly magical appeared on the walls of Jermyns House created with Double Take Projections. A story told in light. A moment that stopped people in their tracks. ✨

This February, Southampton’s stories take centre stage as City Reflections returns with a brand-new light art experience created with Double Take Projections, six brilliant community curators, and archivists from Southampton City Museums.

Together, we’ve created six unique films, each one illuminating a different chapter of our city’s past, its people, places, resilience and spirit, projected onto the city itself.

✨ That’s a wrap ✨

As the festive lights dim for another year, we just want to say a huge thank you.

To every family who wrapped up warm, every couple who walked hand in hand, every grandparent, every first-timer and every returning Light Seeker...you made this season what it was.

This year brought more messages, reviews and stories than we could ever have hoped for. So many of you told us this has became your family tradition. That you felt the magic. That it made you feel something that will stay with you and you won't forget.

These moments only exist because you step into them with us.

💫 Tell us in the comments, what was your favourite moment on the trail?

01/01/2026

Only 3 nights left to Follow the Glow ✨
The lights are still dancing, the music still drifting through the trees, and the memories are waiting to be made.
