Next year 2025 is the 20th year that the RIshton Festival has been held, it all started on the field next to St Peter & St Paul’s school, we are going to do some digging and see how much we can find out about the history of the festival and share it with you.

That means that in 2005 the first Rishton festival was held, looking back it was started by a charity called Friends of Rishton Youth. The aim of the group was to include young people in activities.

Members of The soroptimists Great Harwood and Rishton, wrote the below.

"Yesterday our club members took part in the 'Rishton Festival'. Two years ago a new group was formed 'The Friends of Rishton Youth'. The aim of the group was to include young people in activities. Dorothy Casey (our President elect) is Head Teacher at a Rishton Primary school and has always been concerned about the welfare of children. Dorothy joined the association as did Beryl Timmins another member.

"It was decided this year to hold a 'Festival' in August. We have had lovely weather all last week-- what did we get yesterday Rain -- Rain -- Rain !!!. However the event went as planned.

"We had a parade through most of the streets of Rishton. A great effort was made by all to make fancy dress costumes. What a shame all got so wet.
We finished in a field at the back of a school where all kind of activities took place, wall climbing, running, and many voluntary groups had 'stalls' as we did.
