The Medway Cup

The Medway Cup Firstly please let us take this opportunity to introduce ourselves, our names are Stephen Roddie and Mark Davis.

Together we are the founders of The Medway Cup & Medway Utd FC. Now in it's third successful year The Medway Cup is an U7's, U8's and U9's football tournament that we put together every July. We are running this tournament like a mini world cup for thirty two U7's, U8's and U9's teams that come from across the Kent area and beyond. On the day we will have all sorts of activities going on including

face painting, bouncy castles and a children’s entertainer, we’re sure this will be a thoroughly enjoyable day for all family as well as the football tournament itself which will be amazing. The event has been backed by the Kent Football Association and is fully affiliated! We are holding this years tournament in association with the clubs charity Building Smiles

We will be holding the football tournament on Saturday the 9th of July at the Howard School in Rainham, Kent

Then the following weekend the 16th and 17th of July Beechings Cross in Gillingham.

💫 FOUR DAYS OF MAGIC ON THE PITCH 💫

Over these past two weekends, we’ve seen nearly 200 teams take part across boys and girls age groups from U7s to U12s, as well as our brilliant Women’s Vets tournament, which brought a whole new level of energy and experience to the pitch.

Whether it was the roar of a goal, the joy of a medal, or simply teams bonding over the beautiful game – the spirit of grassroots football was alive in every moment. These young players (and veterans!) reminded us why we love this sport and why we do what we do.

🙏 TO OUR INCREDIBLE VOLUNTEERS – THANK YOU 🙏

A tournament of this scale doesn’t happen without a small army of dedicated people behind the scenes. We want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make Medway Cup 2025 a huge success:

🔹 Our pitch runners keeping the games flowing
🔹 The amazing girls working the tea stall all weekend with a smile
🔹 Our ball boys keeping the pace going
🔹 Referees, stage managers, registration teams – every single person who gave their time to keep things moving smoothly

You are the heartbeat of this tournament. We simply couldn’t do it without you. 💙

🏗️ A special shoutout to D Welch Scaffolding, whose incredible stage build for our presentations just keeps getting better year after year – it’s now one of the most iconic features of the Medway Cup and gives our players a moment to truly remember.

📸 A huge thank you to Paul Smith Digital for capturing the magic through his lens – the photos are phenomenal and full of moments that will be cherished for years.

🍦🍭 🍔 Big love to our vendors Ellinors Ice Cream, Sweetalicious and to our food team Callaway Catering. I’m sure flipping burgers in this heat was not easy

⚽ And of course, thank you to Gillingham Football Club for visiting and supporting the next generation of footballers – your presence meant so much to the players and families.

💬 HELP US MAKE IT EVEN BETTER
We’re so proud of what the Medway Cup has become – a tournament built on passion, inclusion, teamwork, and the love of the game. We pour our hearts into this every year, and we’re always striving to make it even better.

That’s why we’ll be sending out a feedback form in the coming days. If you attended, played, coached, supported, or volunteered – we’d love to hear from you. Your feedback helps us shape the future of this tournament for all involved.

🌍 THANK YOU TO OUR VISITING TEAMS
Finally, a massive thank you to the teams who travelled from all over – Kent, London, Sussex, and Essex – to be part of this year’s Medway Cup. Your support, effort, and sportsmanship made the tournament truly special. It was an honour to host you, and we hope to welcome you back again next year.

😴 And now… we rest!

The committee and volunteers at Medway United are off to finally catch up on some well-earned sleep… knowing we’ve delivered a tournament to be proud of.

From all of us at Medway United, THANK YOU for being part of something special.
See you next year!

Details our our 2026 tournament will be out and with you shortly.

Have a great season ahead everyone.
