We're very pleased to announce our composer-in-residence at the 2026 Presteigne Festival is Michael Zev Gordon. Seven of his works are programmed, including his newly commissioned work for horn and piano 'Waldeinsamkeit', to be premiered by Ben Goldscheider and Clare Hammond.

Great to appear in this fabulous list of classical music festivals – what a prodigious range and breadth of music and variety of artists they offer. Presteigne Festival 2026 launches on Tuesday 5 May, tickets on sale to the general public from 19 May.

A massive thank you to everyone who took part and all those who came along to enjoy the events or just simply enjoyed Presteigne in the sunshine last weekend – such a lovely feeling in the town.

West Side Story
Produced and directed by Steven Spielberg from a Tony Kushner screenplay, West Side Story retells the classic tale of rival gangs and young love in 1957 New York. This bold reimagining of the original musical, with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and choreography by Jerome Robbins, is completely captivating. With iconic songs, breathtaking choreography by Justin Peck and the score performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel, the film also stars Rita Moreno (who was in the original 1961 film). A timeless tale of love and social unrest, captured through Janusz Kaminski’s stunning cinematography.

Galyna Grigoriadi in Concert

Renowned Ukrainian instrumentalist and singer Galyna Grigoriadi performs on the bandura, a unique, traditional 62-string folk instrument and a recognised symbol of Ukrainian culture. Through her music, she introduces audiences to the distinctive sound of the bandura and the richness of Ukrainian folk-song.

Alongside her concert work, Galyna is committed to inspiring new interest in the bandura. She established the Dnipro Ensemble in Gloucester, as well as forming an a ca****la choir in Hereford where members share in Ukrainian culture through song.

Between Heaven and Earth: Sacred music for solo cello

Distinguished cellist Clare O'Connell, known for her wonderfully innovative performances, her new music commissions and her role as a curator of contemporary classical music, has put together an intriguing recital which brings together very old and very new music, not as a contrast but as a single sacred space.

The programme includes works by J S Bach, Edmund Finnis, Natalie Klouda, Marin Marais, James MacMillan, Dietrich Stoeffken and John Tavener.
