The dust has finally settled… and honestly, months of planning could never have prepared us for that weekend.

Shunkfest 3 smashed every expectation.
What started as a drunken conversation 3 years ago has grown into (I maybe a little bias but who cares) the best small grassroots festival in South Wales.

It hasn’t all been smooth sailing to get here, but the ship has steadied — and now it’s full steam ahead to make next year even bigger.

Massive thanks to everyone who made it happen:

🎸 The touring acts who took a chance on a little off licence in Port Talbot – GANS, Slate, The Family Battenberg, Good Health Good Wealth, The Greater Good.

🏠 The brilliant local bands and the crew at Shiny Vinyl Presents

🎨 and .bunkhouse for the killer artwork and Sandro Ford & for the killer promos.

🎚 for keeping the sound on point all weekend.

🙏 Sandy Armour and Jamie Tooze for keeping everything running smooth (and keeping me sane).

The Lost Cause

Back for their third Shunkfest, Port Talbot’s own 5-piece indie crew roll in with a blend that nods to Catfish & the Bottlemen, The 1975 and Stereophonics.
Fresh off stages at In It Together and Tunes on the Bay, they’re home — and ready to make it count.

Bendricks

Barry-born, loud and proud. Bendricks crash into Shunkfest with big riffs and swagger, carrying the spirit of Oasis and Arctic Monkeys but making it their own. Singles like Message in the Snow show exactly why they’re fast becoming one of South Wales’ most exciting live bands.

The Greater Good

Soulful, psychedelic, and impossible to ignore – The Greater Good have stormed stages at Tramlines, Beautiful Days, BBC Car Fest and more. Championed by the late Janice Long as “soulful, psychedelic… with a wonderful voice,” they’re fast becoming one of the UK’s most exciting live acts.

Jamie Tooze

Straight outta Swansea, Jamie Tooze has done it all – bassist, songwriter, producer, and now stepping up as a solo act with tunes that hit you in the chest. He cut his teeth with local band Subterrania and has been filling in on bass for whoever shouts loudest, from last-minute gigs to planned shows.

Now he’s doing his own thing – pulling from the likes of Queen, The Smiths, George Michael, and Springsteen – but with his own stamp. Honest, raw, and made for a live crowd.

The False Idles

Swansea’s own four-piece psych-indie storm, The False Idles bring swirling guitars, pounding rhythms and a sound that feels like it was forged in another dimension then dropped straight into South Wales. One of the finest bands flying the city’s flag right now – and they’re coming to tear it up at Shunkfest.

The Meritones

The four-sided pentagram of Cardiff psych-punk and garage rock, The Meritones serve up the gnarliest of tunes to the hungry masses. They take the groovy slacker rock of bands like Pavement and Built To Spill and drench it in a horse-tranquilising amount of fuzz and saturation, birthing the unholy deathsprog that is New Found Logic – their latest single, already making waves on BBC Radio Wales.
