It's feeling a little quiet in the Events Office today without the buzz of visitors and the House Guides. So what a lift to see this oil painting by Bill Proby, drawn from photographs. Bill lives overseas and traces his ancestry back to an earlier generation of the resident Proby family.

And that, as they say, is that.

Summer 2026, notable for extreme heat and weather warnings, has been and gone. The House Guides gathered today before the last open afternoon for a celebratory lunch, full of chatter and good spirits. We’re sad to end, as ever, but we’ll be back in 2027 to share the continuing story of a house with a special spirit that we have all come to love.

Just one more date this summer to visit the flower-filled gardens at Elton Hall, see the Coriolis fountain, the Orangery, the sunken pond and our neatly clipped topiary. Not to mention interesting architecture and our much-loved collection of fine art, furniture, porcelain and books.

Our last opening day of 2026 is tomorrow Bank Holiday Monday, 2.00pm-5.00pm Tickets to pre-book via our website to secure your preferred house entry time.

What a treat to have the brilliant Peterborough Rock Choir singing for our visitors this afternoon and raising funds for the Country Trust.
