The Theatre is the venue for a number of University meetings, ceremonial occasions, lectures and events. It is where students are welcomed to the University and where degree ceremonies are held. You will enjoy one of the best panaromic views of Oxford from the Cupola. You can gaze up at the Theatres magnificent ceiling and learn about its history from past to present day through ou

r colourful and informative display boards. Opening times are published on our website. A small admission fee applies. Concession rates are available. HIRING
The Theatre can be hired for a range of events but is best suited to concerts, award ceremonies, talks and lectures. Details of our facilities and services can be found on our website.

With unmissable, 360-degree panoramic views of Oxford and over 350 years of history to discover, the Sheldonian Theatre is more than just the ceremonial heart of the University of Oxford... 🎓

Perfect for curious kids and grown-ups alike, with free entry for children under 8!

Fully open 10am - 4:30pm most days, with the exception of Friday 20th which will be Cupola Views only and Sunday 22nd when we are closed for an event.

We’re excited to be part of Oxford Open Doors this year on Sunday 14 September! ⭐️

Come and visit one of the great first masterpieces by Sir Christopher Wren and learn more about what makes this building in the heart of Oxford so unique and special.

Our doors will be open and walls filled with music between 10:30 and 16:30 on Sunday 14 September. Pre-booking is required for our lunchtime concert by the Pavlova Quintet between 13:30 and 14:30 but the cupola will remain open to all throughout the day.

The Sheldonian Theatre is open all of August bank holiday weekend, so please do pop by!

With a breath-taking view from the cupola, unique architecture and activities for all the family, we have something for everyone.

Our opening times this weekend are:

💛 Saturday 10:00-18:00
💛 Sunday 10:00-16:30
💛 Monday 10:00 - 18:00

Schools are out for the Easter Holidays 🐰🌸. If you're looking for things to do in Oxford, look no further than the Sheldonian Theatre. Walk through the historic theatre built over 350 years ago and see the iconic painted ceiling and one of the best views across the city centre.

Bring the family and take part in the family trail while exploring, or come alone and slowly meander through the ceremonial hall of the University of Oxford.
