Community-owned cinema Ultimate Picture Palace (UPP), a community-owned cinema off Cowley Road, is under threat of closure under its current contract

THE ARTS EMERGENCY MANIFESTO *Our vision
The future is a place where young people face no closed doors to their creative ambition*

“There are things that are bigger and better than money. We have things that those in power will never understand.
We take it as a given that a civilised society values education, lifelong learning and creativity as a public good.
We are a social justice not social mobility organisation. Arts Emergency is no substitute for justice withheld.
Fight the conditioning that tells you to demonise young people.
Be fearless. You are just as entitled as anyone to have the life you want.
There is no recession of the imagination.
The future is another place. Allow yourself to believe a better life is possible. Say it loud, defiantly, to everyone.
Be generous. Now be more generous. Share your privilege.
Do something. Start small, start local, keep going.
Optimism is a weapon and if all else fails be silly.”

Step into the Florence Park Community Centre on May 9th, between 5.30 and midnight, for ATTENBOROUGH DUB, as we celebrate the 100th birthday - May 8th - of David Attenborough. Can’t let the Old Man of the Trees touch a hundred and not recognise it. So we’re going to be hearing some nature-themed roots reggae, as we salute the great man. Hoping to hear gems like ‘’Down By The River’’ by Morgan Heritage, ‘’This Land Is For Everyone’’ by the Abyssinians and ‘’Riverside’’ by Culture. One of two of my boyhood heroes still with us. And he’s still on it! Check out Kingdom and the one he made about the animals of London. The session is free to enter, but we’ll appreciate donations for the centre hire. Caterer to be confirmed, then flyer will follow. Anyway, please save the date and come dance for Attenborough hosted by NATTY MARK SAMUELS
