Oxford Cycling Club, aka OCC, offers challenging club rides that are held every Saturday, leaving from The Handlebar on St Michael's Street in the centre of Oxford at 9am. Oxford Cycling Club, aka OCC, is a friendly and welcoming new cycling club based in the historic city of Oxford. Banter and friendly rivalries are encouraged, but most of all we encourage a vibrant club culture, including evenin

gs and events that will bring riders of all speeds, shapes and sizes together to celebrate the sport we are all passionate about. Life, however, is not all about cycling and OCC has teamed up with a local hospice, Sobell House, and a proportion of all funds raised by OCC through subscriptions, kit sales and events will be heading in the direction of this admirable Oxford charity. Based at Bike Zone on St Michael's Street in the historic centre of Oxford, our club rides are held every Saturday morning and if you are resident in the area or visiting our city, then you are welcome to join us for a ride! if you want to learn a little more about OCC, then please visit our website: www.oxfordcyclingclub.co.uk. You will find far more information about the club, including our club rides and events listings.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of a wonderful friend and co-founder of Oxford Cycling Club, Johnny Morrison. He was loved and respected by everyone in our club, and the wider Oxford cycling community, and remained an integral member of OCC, having returned to his beloved Wollongong, New South Wales, in 2022.

Johnny passed away on Wednesday 12 November, having sustained a serious injury, whilst cycling with friends at the weekend.

We have lost an exceptional club mate, but our thoughts and prayers go out to Sarah and Izzie, who have lost a devoted, adoring husband and father. We are heartbroken for them both and for Johnny's parents, sisters and family in Australia. They are all very much in our thoughts at this most tragic and devastating time.

A particularly fast close pass by the driver of this van resulted in the motorist being offered a Driver Education Course by Thames Valley Police, which he/she duly attended, at their own time and expense. (Apologies for the expletives, but when a 3+ ton vehicle passes so close at speed that it almost touches your arm, the reaction can be somewhat visceral 🤬).

Our latest video offers further evidence that Thames Valley Police continue to take reports of incidents of bad driving involving cyclists far more seriously than they have in the past. These incidents were captured by our members either on our club rides or when riding solo and all the motorists were offered the option of attending a driver education course for a day, as an alternative to prosecution, at his/her own expense.

This is not to say the system is perfect and aspects of the reporting procedure and investigation of these incidents are still of concern, but it appears that a more robust and consistent policy is developing and that has an important role to play in policing our roads, both in the Thames Valley area and nationally. Education, whether via social media campaigns or targeting motorists who endanger cyclists is key to making our roads safer for all users, especially the most vulnerable.

All the incidents in this video were avoidable and unnecessary. The motorists involved could have taken more care when passing the cyclists involved, but chose not to. Thames Valley Police agreed with our position that the driving fell below accepted standards, hence the action taken. Please contact us via our website if you have any questions relating to
