REPORT
Due to the continued hot weather, the match was reduced to five hours for fish safety reasons, but as the carp had completed spawning the previous day, the ban on fishing within two metres of the bank (or island) was lifted. Unfortunately, due to carp’s strenuous activities over the previous few days, they generally were not interested in feeding, although they could be seen all around the lake.

The payout was as normal – the overall winner, then defaulting to the top two on each bank of the lake (A and B), and fishing times were adjusted to a 12 noon start to 5 pm.

John Brandrick, a master of mugging and fishing shallow, was thrilled with his draw of peg A6, and even more pleased to see vast numbers of fish had accumulated there, many appearing to be rooting in the bottom. By fishing with a pellet waggler throughout the match, John was soon into fish, and caught slowly and steadily until around 4 pm, after which he did not have a bite. His final tally of 112 lbs more than doubled the weight of the runner-up.

John Adamson on peg A8, in deeper water and a long island cast of 40m, caught a skimmer on his second cast with the method feeder, then an F1 to keep it company. It was not until 3 pm that carp were prepared to feed, and by 4 pm be had added 6 carp and another skimmer to his net, at which point the swim “died”. However, his 53-10 weight was enough for second overall, and to win the A bank pool.

Third place fell to Belgian visitor Davy Baetens, who was on peg A16. Davy caught his carp on maggots, presented on the pole in his margins, and his 47-00 took second place on the A bank.

Tony Brookes, who was on peg B18, filled fourth spot overall and was first in the B bank pool. He caught several fish on the pellet waggler fished towards the island, and ended with a decent carp on his slow sinking waggler fished over the deeper water halfway over. His weight was 44-04.

Andy Findlay on peg B3 mugged two decent carp in the first 10 minutes, but unfortunately for him, he only managed to tempt three more fish in the remainder of the match. His total of 41-03 secured fifth place overall and the final place in the B bank pool.
Hopefully, by next week, the fish will have fully recovered and be ready to feed.

Many thanks to John Brandrick and Tony Brookes for the scales operating, the photos shown are of the top anglers on the day.

REPORT
Due to holidays and festivals, the attendance remained lower than normal. However, it was still pegged to enable the full lake to be covered, with the pool payout as normal to the overall winner and then (defaulting) to the top two weights on each bank.

The wind was from a direction not seen in recent weeks – South West, although it remained a little chilly, with a mixture of sun and cloud and the usual rain shower.

The top two both topped the “ton” and were again split by a single fish. Shaun W**d on peg B15, facing the wind, was soon into fish on pole and pellet, catching short. It took him a while to get his feeding sorted, and, switching to an 8ml pellet, he caught quicker towards the end, with a carp catch of 124-05 to win the match.

On the opposite bank on peg A6, John Lack struggled for bites for the first half of the match, then caught the odd decent carp. With two hours to go, his swim came alive, and by fishing the bomb and pellet in open water, he had a bite a cast right up to the end to finish on 118-00 for second overall, taking first on the A bank.

Over on the B bank and B18, Rob Lowe had a single fish on the method feeder before deciding to fish paste, short, for the remainder of the match. As the match progressed, his fish increased in size, and his final tally was 83-13 (including 6 fish, two of which were quite small, for 49-02). This took third overall and won the B bank.

Steve Bentley (A8) was fourth overall (second on the A bank) with 60-05, mainly caught short on the pole, with Tony Lamb’s 51-13 fifth overall, coming to the method feeder, just missing out.

Back to the B bank, and Chris Wayte took the final money place, second on the B bank (and sixth overall) with 49-08, mainly from the margin, with John Adamson (B21 – again!) just missing out with 48-05.

Many thanks to Rob Lowe for his great scales work. The photos show the top anglers. Plus one of the Geese and their progeny.

REPORT
For the time of the year, the weather conditions were awful. There was a strong and bitterly cold NW wind, which varied in direction and became approaching gale force as hail and rainstorms hit at various points throughout the day, and between these, at times, we were bathed in sunshine. At least it helped us to dry out between the showers.

Surprisingly, despite the chilly wind, the fish followed it to the high-numbered pegs that dominated the prize list.

Once again, the pool payout was to the overall winner and then defaulted to the top two weights on each bank.

After a poor week last week, Gav James returned to winning ways with another excellent result, putting 127-12 on the scales from peg B24. Facing the weather, he first cast his method feeder towards the island, but seeing fish topping over the deeper water, he dropped his next cast short and was soon into fish. He caught mainly smaller stamp fish, but had an active day.

On pegs B15 and B18, the two Tonys, Brookes and Lamb, had a right battle, and only three ounces split their weights at the end, 127-15 to 127-12. Tony Brookes caught mainly on bomb and pellet, while “Lamby” caught on the method feeder early on, then in the latter stages, took a fish with every cast on bomb and pellet.

Gaz Kitch (A15) was fourth with 88-11 taken on the method feeder, and at times he had to go up to a 45g feeder to combat the wind, which paid off with some decent-sized fish, which took the A bank pool, John Lack (A19 and in sixth place) taking second on the A bank with his bomb and pellet caught 61-03, all coming from the deep water. He said that the shallows were full of spawning bream.

Splitting these two was Andy Findlay (B12) with 84-04, who had a late run of fish catching short on the method feeder.

Many thanks to Tony Brookes for his excellent scales-work, assisted at times by Andy Findlay. Greatly appreciated.

With various festivals and holidays over the coming weeks we will have quite a “turnover” of people fishing, so please check the list of anglers booked on to ensure you are on (or off) whichever applies.

One other thing of interest, the top peg so far this year remains as A6, which has drawn money seven times. There is a tie for second between A8 and B15, 6 each, followed by A15 and B18 with 5 times. Taking money four times is: B3, B8, B12, A19, A16 and A10. Twenty-eight different pegs have been in the prize list this year, showing that you stand a chance wherever you draw on the lake.

NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
