This week’s Song of the Week goes to Double Negative for their new release ‘timeframe.’!

timeframe. - In Double Negative’s Words: “timeframe.” is Double Negative’s funk rock anthem, a hidden gem in the heart of their debut EP, showing a clear stylistic change from the previous songs while maintaining the band’s cool and quirky personality.

The song is based around one revolving groove interrupted by driving choruses, matching the lyrical themes of feeling stuck in one moment in time, where the results of your actions feel small and unimportant.

It shows a strange hope of freedom within an almost nihilistic point of view.

The Other Side - In The Falls’ Words: The other side is an indie rock/pop song about how things may not always be what they seem and changing things isn’t always for the best. It is one of our lighter tracks and we think it has almost a sitcom theme tune vibe about it.

Our first ever song of the week choice is Someone Else’s Game, which was released as part of his new EP in the last couple of weeks.

John is playing The Viola Beach Stage this weekend at Neighbourhood Weekender (16:25-16:50) and he deserves to be among some of the biggest names in the UK indie scene.

Someone Else’s Game - In John’s Words: This is a song based on social constructionism which is a theory I’ve always been interested in and kind of agreed with really. The idea that human beings should spend their lives stressing over our finances and jobs to the point that we as humans almost forget who we are and what we stand for, having been whisked away by daily expectations which aren’t natural and we’re established hundreds of years ago by ordinary people who are just like us, hence the title, “Someone Else’s Game”.

The song tells the story of a person who can’t get these thoughts out of their head, but knows deep down that they’ll never be able to beat this system and live a completely free life.”
