RACE DAY DETAILS:
We are looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday – it’s great to be back racing with others at long last!
Please read the following information carefully regarding the Pendle trail Race on Saturday.
Getting there. United Utilities are doing some work at the junction of Blacko Barr Road and Barley New Road at Roughlee and have a road closure in place. At the time of writing I am waiting to hear if they will open the road to vehicles but to be on the safe side I would advise to approach Barley through Fence and Newchurch rather than Noggarth or Roughlee. From the M65 or A6068 put BB12 9JR in your Sat Nav which will take you to Newchurch – keep going on the same road which takes you up to the top of the hill and down to Barley.
Car Park. Barley Car Park now operates a registration plate recognition system and you will need to pay for parking for a stay over 30 mins. It’s £1.50 up to 3 hours and £3 over. Payment can be made via cash or card at the machine or online up to 48 hours after.
Covid-19. I am sure it goes without saying that if you are feeling unwell at all, please do not attend the event. With just 2 days to go before restrictions are lifted we do still need to be vigilant and follow some rules that are in place. Please respect the distance between yourself, officials and other participants. If you are worried about starting in the mass start please let me know and we can look into having a smaller 2nd start 1 minute later.
Registration is on the picnic site next to Barley Car Park. There will be 2 queues in alphabetical order depending upon your surname – these will be labelled. You will collect your number from here. The Cabin in the car park is opening earlier than usual at 9am if anyone is hungry or thirsty prior to the event.
Toilets there are a couple of public toilets in the car park but be prepared to queue so please come early!
Start is at 10am outside the village Hall
Route Is just short of 5 miles as we are finishing slightly sooner than usual to avoid the likely congestion around the car park. You can view a strava run here of the route: https://strava.app.link/yCYaVhwLxhb
The route is signed with directional arrows and red/white tape. There are marshals on the course and a sweeper to tail run. Please note that earphones are not permitted, we want you to be able to hear marshal instructions and any approaching traffic on the narrow country lanes. The route is a mixture of field, track, path and tarmac. There are some livestock in the fields but I have assurances from the farmer they will be fine and an additional marshal will be present here for anyone nervous.
IMPORTANT: There are no water stations on the course. The forecast is hot and sunny, you will be running up hills, you will be hot – you need to avoid dehydrating. Please ensure you hydrate properly before the race and carry water with you if you think you might need it.
Finish Following Covid guidelines to avoid unnecessary social contact and mass gatherings we will not be holding a presentation this year. We will give prizes to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female to cross the line. Everyone please take a medal, bottle of water and biscuit bar yourselves to minimize contact. There will, however be plenty of spot prizes too!
Results will be published on the Pendle Running Festival page on Sunday at the latest.
Updates any updates prior to the event will be posted to our page https://www.facebook.com/PendleRunningFestival
Finally, thank you all so much for entering our little trail race in beautiful Barley! We really hope you enjoy the route. If you have any spare breath at all please thank our volunteer marshals who are giving up their time to make our event possible. See you on Saturday!
