Sophie's Mile is a tribute to Sophie and a fight against ovarian cancer!

On Saturday 10th October 2026, Edward will pull a truck one mile along Bournemouth Promenade, raising £50,000 for Target Ovarian Cancer - the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity, working to improve early diagnosis, fund vital research, and support women and families living with this disease.

He's doing this in memory of his wife, Sophie, who faced ovarian cancer three times with extraordinary strength and courage. She was just 29 when she passed away.

11 women die from ovarian cancer every day in the UK, and three-quarters aren't diagnosed until it's already spread. Target Ovarian Cancer is working to change that and every donation gets us closer:

- £17 could help one more person access trusted advice.
- £50 could help 50 people learn the symptoms.
- £72 could update ten GPs' knowledge.
- £250 could fund a day of vital research.

Pulling a truck for one mile could never compare to what Sophie endured. But it symbolises walking a mile in her shoes and shows what's possible when we pull together, just as Sophie pulled everyone around her, right to the very end.

Behind Sophie’s Mile is the story of a remarkable young woman. Her name was Sophie Wilson. 💙

Sophie died from ovarian cancer in November 2024, aged just 29, after facing multiple diagnoses, surgery and chemotherapy.

Those closest to Sophie remember her for her courage, resilience and extraordinary selflessness. Even while suffering greatly, she continued to comfort the people around her, check on friends and make plans for the future.

Sophie dreamed of becoming a mum. Cancer took that future from her. On 11th November 2024, she married her husband Edward at Poole Hospital. It was the same day she passed away.

This October, Edward, Sophie’s parents, siblings and close friends will walk a mile in her shoes by pulling a truck along Bournemouth Promenade.

The Scottish Half Marathon community understands the strength it takes to keep moving forward and the difference people can make when they move together.

Please help Sophie’s legacy create hope for other women and families, https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/sophiesmiletruckpull2026

Behind every running community is a story that reminds us why we do this. This is Sophie’s story.

Sophie Wilson died of ovarian cancer in November 2024, aged 29, after battling the disease through multiple diagnoses, surgery and chemotherapy and facing all of it, by every account, without complaint and without giving up. On 11th November 2024, Sophie married her husband Edward at Poole Hospital. It was the same day she passed away.

This October, Edward together with Sophie's parents Mike and Jackie, her siblings Sam and Michael, and a team of close friends are taking on Sophie's Mile: a mile-long truck pull, completed in 20-metre sections, on Bournemouth Promenade between Bournemouth and Boscombe Pier, on Saturday 10 October 2026.

It's a huge physical challenge, taken on to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and to support Target Ovarian Cancer, the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity, which works to improve early diagnosis, fund research, and support people affected by the disease.

Follow their journey. Share Sophie's story. Donate if you can.

Every bit of support helps turn her memory into something that changes what happens next for other women and families.
