2nd Annual Montrose LandxSea Film Fest
13 - 15 September, 2024
The Montrose Playhouse | Cinema & Arts Venue

LandxSea is Scotland's first environme

ntal film festival. Our focus is the deep connection between land & sea, showcasing environmental films from diverse global perspectives. The festival is hosted at the Montrose Playhouse, a community-owned, state-of-the-art multi-screen cinema & arts venue that opened in 2021.

1st Annual Festival in September 2023: Over three days, we spotlighted 22 new environmental films from around the world, with 12 visiting filmmakers and guest speakers, expert panels, and incredible audience discussions. We're still buzzing from a weekend of packed houses, compelling films that sparked deep emotions, and the buzz of conversation echoing long after the credits rolled. A huge thank you to everyone who came and took part in the events. We're already counting down to our next adventure together!

Told entirely from the perspective of its avian protagonist, HEN follows a chicken who escapes an industrial farm only to find herself navigating the pecking order of a crumbling seaside restaurant in Greece.

As she fights to protect her eggs, she becomes an unwitting witness to the complex human lives around her as the restaurant is caught up in greed, smuggling, and the migrant crisis.

β€œIt is engaging and entertaining stuff with a genre-edge to it that sets it wide apart from the traditional family-oriented live-action animal movies” –Screen Anarchy

Our next LandxSea Monthly screening. 15 June, 7.30pm at The Montrose Playhouse

The Scottish Government has delayed crucial sea protections for over 10 years. This cannot go on. ⏳ 🌊🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Most of our marine protected areas were designated way back in 2014. Yet, over a decade later, many still have zero fishing restrictions. πŸ›‘βš“οΈ

This leaves our most sensitive seabed habitats vulnerable to industrial bottom trawling and dredging β€” destroying the ecosystems that sustain our precious marine wildlife and their vital habitats. 🐬🌿

Last year the Scottish Government delayed a vital public consultation on proposals to restrict damaging fishing in marine protected areas yet again. We cannot let our precious marine life wait any longer.

HOW TO HELP:

We need to flood MSPs with one clear message: Launch the consultation on marine protected areas within the first 100 days of the new parliament. πŸ›οΈβœ¨

A huge thank you for everyone who came out the the People's Emergency Briefing last night. It was really good to have a theatre full of engaged folk.

We came away hearing that a lot of folk want to get involved, and want to carry on the conversation. If you don't already, give Angus Climate Hub and Montrose LandxSea Film Fest a follow and check out the events listings on the Sea Change profile to see what is coming up right away.

We will follow up with those of you who have offered to join smaller conversations and be interviewed as part of Sea Change.

If you weren't able to join us last night and still want to be part of the conversations or be interviewed, please DM me or come by POP By ProMo next week and say "Hi."

Our honorary festival guest is out and about in Montrose πŸ˜„πŸŒΏ

We were very happy to loan our life-size Sir David Attenborough cut-out to Montrose Basin Wildlife Reserve and Visitor Centre to help celebrate his 100th birthday.

A trip to the visitor centre is a lovely excuse to immerse yourself in nature and celebrate someone who has inspired generations to care more deeply about the living world. πŸ’š

Happy Birthday Sir David! πŸŽ‚πŸ¦πŸŒŠ

There will be a special (cardboard) guest at the visitor centre tomorrow to celebrate Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday πŸŽ‚

We'll be offering free entry all day, so come along, meet 'Sir David' and mark this special day by immersing yourself in nature.

Thanks to The Montrose Playhouse for letting him out for the day!

We could use a little hope! On 14 May at The Montrose Playhouse, we're inviting you to join us for a free community screening of the People's Emergency Briefing. πŸ“’

The short film is based on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster last November, where ten of the UK’s leading experts briefed over 1,200 politicians and leaders on the implications climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy.

No jargon. No fluff. No spin.

Here's what one audience member who attended had to say.

We're looking forward to screening this and sharing ideas, thoughts and possible solutions together with you through an open community discussion facilitated by Sea Change Montrose's and .climatehub

The event is free, but we recommend booking via our bio link!
