As some of you may know, the crazy Hayley, Debs, Ross and Carolyn are taking part in the Doddie 555 charity cycling ride in February 2023.

This is a 555mile ride from Cardiff to Edinburgh over 48hrs with very little sleep, through the night riding and predicted treacherous weather conditions!

So what are we raising money for?

MND (motor neurone disease) is a fatal, rapidly progressing neurological disease. It attacks the nerves that control movement, so that muscles no longer work. 6 people are diagnosed with MND every day in the UK.

The 2023 ride will be all the more meaningful as Doddie Weir OBE (former Scottish Rugby Union player), who represented British and Irish lions, sadly lost his battle with MND on 26th November 2022 six years after he was diagnosed.

We are seeking your support in a number of ways and would be truly grateful if you could support us with any of the below which are essential to be able to take part in this amazing ride:

1) Loan of a campervan or motor home or transit van from 8th feb - 12th/13th feb to be used as a support vehicle

2) washing a drying facilities along the route

3) Vehicle LED safety lights/signage

4) charging facilities (phones, garmins, lights etc) along the route

5) food and beverage refilling stations along the route

6) multi chargers

7) portable chargers that we can use along the way

8)high vis jackets and warning triangles in case of bike failure/repair in the dark hours

9) floodlights that can be used for number 8 purposes!

10) large thermos flasks

We will share the route as soon as possible but to give you an idea, it is from Principality stadium in Cardiff to Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh.

We appreciate how much we are asking for and simple can’t do this without your support so we are calling on all our friends, local/national businesses and hotels/B&B’s that can offer any support at all.

For the fundraising element, all monies raised will go towards treatment for MND which will aim to ease symptoms as much as possible. Treatments include physiotherapy, speech therapy, research and medicines.

Lastly, please do share this post far and wide. The more people hear about this the better.

PS…. Callie, Gareth, Mike, Ken, Jim and myself are the support crew who are there to keep them safe (from a warm car!), on hand medics, logistics team, welfare officers, route planners and all round general help just in case anyone was silly enough to think we would be riding!
