Back to the day job today! 🪁

While many of our fellow kite flyers are heading off to the Portsmouth International Kite Festival or Kristiansands in Norway this weekend, we’re taking a well-earned weekend off.

But not for long… 👀

Next stop: Filey! 🌊🪁

We’ll be there for the Friday Night Fly, followed by a full two-day festival on 19th & 20th September

Looking forward to getting the kites back in the sky and seeing everyone there!

We’d just like to take a moment to reflect on what has been another incredible festival, and to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who makes it possible. ❤️

First and foremost, without Fylde Council and their amazing team, this festival simply wouldn’t happen. If you live locally, you really do have a fantastic council, and you should be very proud of the support they give to events like ours.

A massive thank you also goes to St Anne’s Town Council and The Pier Cafe, who have been with us every step of the way from day one. We’re incredibly grateful for your support, then and now.

Both the St Anne’s and Fylde Mayors

The Inn on the Prom for hosting the kite workshop and Flyers.

And of course, to all the kite flyers who travel from far and wide, including the Northern Kite Group, who help make the Kite Festival such an incredible spectacle. Honestly, is there a better FREE event anywhere in the UK? We’re not sure there is! 🪁❤️

Thank you to:

Our commentators, arena directors and Simon the music man.

And a very special thank you to Peter, who facilitates and coordinates all the hotels, B&Bs and taxis for our visiting kite flyers. It’s a huge job behind the scenes, and we really appreciate everything you do to help make the festival run smoothly. ❤️

And finally, thank you to the public — for coming, supporting us, enjoying the kites, embracing the atmosphere and making the whole weekend what it is.

Every single one of you plays a part in creating what we think is a truly fantastic weekend.

This year, however, we also took a moment to remember two very special kite flyers who sadly passed away earlier this year, but who were both such an integral part of the Kite Festival.

David Holt — DHKites 🪁

Dave was a fellow founder of the festival and is known around the world for his incredible kite creations. Many of his kites were proudly on display throughout the festival this weekend.

Dave was also responsible for inviting many of the kite flyers in Year 1 and was a big cog in the engine of SAIKF. His contribution to the festival and the wider kite-flying community will never be forgotten.

And Jim Potts ❤️

Festival organiser, kite builder and our communications officer. Former police officer, solicitor and CPS — Jim was as slippery as they come! 😂 But above all, he was a true stalwart of the festival.

For many people, Jim was the voice of the festival, and it was his voice you would hear in so many interviews and conversations about what we do.

We miss them both enormously, and we’re so grateful for everything they gave to the festival.

This video is a small tribute to Dave and Jim, created by the Quad Line Mega Team.

Two incredible characters, two huge contributions, and two people who will always be part of the story of the Kite Festival. 🪁❤️

Thank you to everyone who continues to make this festival what it is. We couldn’t do it without you.

See you all next year! 🪁❤️

After a truly incredible day yesterday 🪁☀️ we’re about to launch into Day 3 of St Anne’s International Kite Festival! ☀️🪁

We’ll be there 11am–4pm and we’re looking forward to another fantastic day! 🎉

Of course, we can’t control the weather, and kite flying is weather dependent 🌦️🪁 But we think the forecast is looking promising, and as always, we’re keeping a positive outlook!

Fingers crossed for plenty of wind and lots of colourful kites in the sky. 🤞🪁✨

See you there!
