First held in 2010, in its 6 year history it has quickly become a firm favourite, not only with the public but also with the wine merchants themselves. The Wine Fair is held in the splendid surroundings of The Wycliffe Rooms, George Street, Lutterworth (next to the library for those who know the area). It is a charity event with monies raised going to local good causes. From the start it has been
a collaboration with The Association of Small Direct Wine Merchants (ASDW). The ASDW, as you might guess from the name, is a group of British Independent small wine merchants, selling niche wine. Each ASDW member tends to specialise in wines from certain countries and this has meant, over the years, that not only have wines from the more established producing countries, such as France, Spain, Italy and Australia been available to the general public to buy, but they have also been able to taste & purchase wines from Portugal, Austria and one of the largest wine producing countries in the world, India! Alongside merchants from the ASDW we also look to feature local growers and producers in the South Leicestershire Area. Here in South Leicestershire there are a number of small, independent vineyards, one of whom, Chevelswarde Organic vineyard in South Kilworth have been with us from the beginning. Chevelswarde Organic Wine is home to four varieties of organically grown grapes in which the soil is fed with compost and no harsh chemicals or pesticides are used. Established in 1973 we were the first English vineyard to get Soil Association organic certification and are committed to ensuring our system is as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. Chevelswarde were named ‘Organic Food Heroes’ by the Soil Association and were awarded a top accolade by the Organic Growers Alliance. The Date for the 2016 Lutterworth Wine Fair is Saturday 8th October – Noon to 6.00pm.
