Two of our team, Izabel and Chloe, were out in the community at The Winstanley School in Braunstone Town yesterday leading a workshop to a group of 20 talented Year 7 students 📝 Students were challenged to pick 3 objects from a selection and imagine the characters who might own them. Imaginations flourished and we were very impressed by the work produced!

Uchenna is a writer, blogger and editor. She is a writer in contemporary fiction and the Weird. Her contemporary work focuses on the mental health and identity of Black British Women as well as her Nigerian culture and heritage. Her ‘Weird’ writing also engages with her Nigerian background, delving into myths and beliefs, also taking a twisted take on life writing; hoping to make your average day the most uncomfortable.

Up next, we're excited to introduce the brilliant Moses Bentley!

Moses writes prose fiction, comics and plays in a wide variety of genres. He tries his best not to include pirates and horses in all his stories. He’s currently writing a contemporary crime comedy novel which features only a few pirates and a Wild West comic that has perhaps too many horses.

Up next, we are excited to introduce Kate Thompson!

Kate Thompson is an avid writer of both prose and poetry, with a fondness for new-adult romantic fiction, and the offstage-Armageddon trope. She takes inspiration largely from her personal experiences and finds writing to be a useful and often cathartic tool for the exploration of self.

Kate has a keen interest in experimental narrative styles and enjoys taking an avant-garde approach to her writing. She is currently working on a novel aiming to subvert the conventional ideas of good and evil, asking readers to reconsider how they determine who the hero and villain of a story are.

Today's introduction is Hannah Timson!

Hannah is a writer of contemporary fiction based in the East Midlands who specialises in life-writing narratives - typically surrounding trauma and the ‘othering’ of characters living with mental disorders.
She is a part-time student on the MA course and is currently trying her hand at writing flash-fiction incorporating bathos and dry humour into topics you wouldn’t typically expect. Her biggest pet peeve is people who put an unnecessary “P” in her surname.

In the run up to our festival, we are going to tell you a little bit more about the creators of Behind the Mask and give you an introduction to our MA students who will also be performing as part of festival events.

First up, we have Bethan Rumsey! Bethan is a fiction writer, working on novels in contemporary romance and magical realism with LGBTQ characters. She is experimenting with unique styles and ways to structure authentic narratives. She does not often write in third person and so struggled to write this bio.
