Public shows monthly at a secret location in Kennington (address sent with tickets), featuring illusionist, Simon Drake, star and creator of the cult TV show 'The Secret Cabaret'. Established in a secret location in 1995 in a 200 year old building, Simon Drake’s unique venue, The House of Magic will transport you to an amazing, enchanting secret world. There is free fortune telling on The Whispering Chair, close-up magicians, a lavish seasonal buffet, tours of the Haunted Cellar, dancing and reasonably priced bar. We host public events throughout the year and also great value and classy shared Christmas events as well as exclusive hire for private and corporate parties. I have only ever given one lecture on my craft or some may say ‘the art’ of magic an illusion. It occurred to me to perhaps let it find a wider audience amongst people with interests of: Stagecraft, timing, choice of material, making props including limited edition specialised magic items, mask work, accidents on stage and descriptions of my venue. Another fabulous wedding last Sunday as Joni and Julia tied the knot during our third heat wave of the summer. Party revellers were hard at it from 5pm till midnight with a band and DJ. Our chef Peter served a vegan buffet for 120 which went down very well but OMG it was HOT. Here’s a music video entitled Archfiend just released by the band Amnesiak. It was apparently inspired by America’s first serial killer, H.H. Holmes who used the Chicago World's Fair in 1893 to prey on tourists. Shot entirely here at the House of Magic, I had no idea the beautiful lead singer Grace Wilson would end up shackled to the wall in my spooky old cellar. Best run down and make sure she is not still there!

My mum who lives in NZ is now 93 and a couple of months ago she had a serious fall. She was in hospital for a while. It was very worrying as we nearly lost her. Thankfully she is now fully recovered and my daughter Alice and I spoke to her on cam last night. She is 100% better now with one rather special difference. She laughs at just about everything. Pretty much every line that was said was punctuated with happy giggles. What a great lesson she is to me and us all as we wade through life’s troubles. Her example really puts things in perspective with all the nonsense that can be thrown at one.

Hosting a wedding party for these two love birds at the House of Magic this evening. Not many realise we host wedding receptions and have had some stunners over the years, including a Heavy Metal wedding, a rockabilly one, an Alice in Wonderland celebration, quite a few LGBTQ + and multicultural weddings and of course that highly memorable Star Wars wedding with real Storm Troopers escorting the bride on arrival!
