Since the doors opened in 1979, this unique venue has been entertaining children with resonant, engaging and exciting theatre. Over 100,000 children a year come to Polka and are inspired, stimulated and engaged by theatre, often for the first time. Polka strives to stir the emotions, spark the imagination and, most of all, entertain. Its two theatre spaces, the Main Theatre and the Adventure Theatre are designed especially for children so that their first taste of theatre is welcoming and relevant. Opening Times:

Tuesday – Friday: 9am – 5pm
Saturday – Sunday: 9:30am – 5pm (excluding Bank Holidays)

The building is closed on Mondays. Box Office Opening times:
Tues-Fri – 9am – 5pm
Sat-Sun – 10am – 4.30pm

Last week, our Polka Young Voices and GRADS came to see the R&D of our upcoming suffragette and protest themed show: Rebel, Rebel!

Young Voices (aged 8-12) and GRADs (aged 12+) are part of our Ambassadors Scheme and are a crucial part of feeding back on new Polka productions in development, to let us know what works (what doesn’t work!), and what they’d like to see end up on stage. They also get to review the shows afterwards!

What do we do while we're closed?

Short answer. Loads. Some highlights this week have been:

⭐ Checking and testing all the lights and other technical equipment in both theatres
⭐ Reorganising all our amazing workshop props
⭐ Carrying out essential work in our backstage bathrooms

There's still lot more work to be done (including the deep carpet clean!) before we can welcome you back!

📣 We'll be closed for a little bit 📣

From Monday 24 August - Tuesday 8 September we'll be closed for our annual dark period, so we can carry out some essential work to keep our building looking lovely! We'll be checking the theatres, cleaning the carpets, changing some décor and so much more, keep an eye out to see what we're up to.

To summarise:

⭐ Play Spaces, the Café and shop will be closed from Monday 24 August and reopen Wednesday 9 September.

⭐ Box Office will be open Monday 24 - Thursday 27 August & Tuesday 1 - Friday 4 September. Normal Box Office opening hours will return from Monday 7 September.

⭐ Shows will return with our Big Dreams Festival on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 September. Our Weekly workshops start from Tuesday 22 September.

Happy 20th birthday Freefalling 🥳

Over the past twenty years, Freefalling has:

⭐ Helped over 380 young people
⭐ Delivered over 700 hours of workshops
⭐ Performed 24 performances
⭐ And arranged over 1100 cab trips for the young people who need them!

A massive shout out to our incredible Freefalling Project Manager Dominic Hedges, and this year's practitioners Aqiong Zhang, Catriona Malbaski and Melissa Berry.
