So pleased to be invited to run some workshops at the annual early years conference in Haringey. The workshop 'confident tool use with young children' looked at the tools, benefits and risks of developing younger children's skills. The practitioners enjoyed the hands-on experience and exploration of tools. And the loose parts play they created too. I was super privileged to have my own children's first early years supporter join the group. And it reminded me how important and special these workers are in parent's lives ❤️.

Nature connection in the paradise that is Costa Rica was beyond my wildest dreams. The flora and fauna was so exotic and varied, the sea warm and the people warm hearted. Being immersed in nature I truly experienced Pura Vida. And would recommend it to everyone

Today I found the Goodison Fountain (often referred to as the “spring”) on Hampstead Heath, North London for the first time. As far as I know it's the only natural spring in North London the public can access.

It is a free‑running fountain drawing from a natural mineral spring, known for its iron‑rich water. It has been written about as far back as 17th century, where the waters were long regarded as having health value.

It feeds the 6 ponds below it, including the two swimming ponds.

The Goodison Fountain itself was installed in 1929, commemorating Henry Edmund Goodison, a local campaigner for preserving the Kenwood Estate and adjacent Heath land

It has visible iron oxide deposits in the return drain and tastes quite metallic but it is tested frequently and is safe to drink.

Thanks to .larks for pinpointing it as it was on a trail I don't frequent.

What an interesting walk this will be. Wish I was around to join

Come join us on Sunday 16th November, when bryophyte expert Professor Jeff Duckett will guide us on a walk to discover the beautiful mosses and other woodland flora of Queen's Wood - home to one of London's most diverse range of mosses and lichens.

Bring a hand lens if you have one, to take a really close look at this fascinating miniature world!

Meet outside the Lodege/café at 10.30am.
Free event, everyone welcome!

We got excited about Halloween and samhain as one of the children told us how to play 99 nights in the forest (IYKYK but I didn't) which we adapted it to play in real time. The occultists were swapped for hunters and there was no switch from day or night. Making weapons for protection, collecting wood to keep the fire going and finding medicine (wool) around the area to revive those caught by the hunters. Great enthusiasm and adventurous play. Clay creations reflecting the season. Apple bobbing, doughnut dangling and toffee apple roasting too. So fire, axe and knife skills. Too busy to photograph them but we all had a fab day.
