In July 1888, women and girls working at Bryant & May’s match factory in London’s East End shocked the world, and ultimately changed it. In the summer of 1888, 1400 women walked out on strike over management bullying and appalling, hazardous working conditions. They marched to Parliament, and their strength and

solidarity won them better pay, safer conditions, and the right to form the largest union of women and girls in Britain. They were an inspiration to other groups of workers up and down the country and throughout the world. The modern movement for workers’ rights had begun, and the matchwomen were at the forefront of it. Celebrate their spirit with us! 7th July 2018

This is incredibly naff.
It’s giving ‘William Hague in a baseball cap’ levels of ‘HEY KIDS!’ desperation.

Mum was murdered, but many lives were changed forever by the murder of Dr Fortune Gomo. Just a normal trip to the shop with her 10 year old,- something that would have been done countless times - would end, so brutality could not have been anticipated.

Apart from the cowardly murder, there are so many concerns raised about the responses to attacks on women and children, especially if the perpetrator or, in this case, perpetrators are white.

We did not hear about this gruesome, savage attack and murder of this Black woman...in the presence of her traumatised daughter, until other Black people shared it online. Common was the comment, "This is not being picked up by the media. It's more proof that Black lives do NOT matter to some.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends, especially Fortune's 10-year-old daughter, as well as the community most impacted. We stand with you in solidarity and knel with you in prayer. 🙏🏿
