Pouring. Cutting. Lifting. Carrying. Placing.

Freezing morning at Pennyhill Park. Wind moving the fabric. The hours before the showcase.

Hands working through thousands of cow parsley stems, lined one by one. Water being moved to vases. Branches being pulled into place. Candlelight arranged in glass cylinders. One element at a time, methodical and considered.

This is the invisible part of a ceremony design - the preparation that happens in the dark, before guests arrive, before the ceremony begins.

A bucket, a set of stairs, and a very particular way of doing things.

This is my small studio. Shelves organised the way they are because that's how everything else runs — the proposals, the timelines, the setup morning.

The vases have a place , so does everything else.

If it's tidy here, it's tidy on your wedding day.

Did you know that before a flower variety can be grown commercially in the UK it has to go through a licensing process that can take years?

That's why something like butterfly ranunculus has only just started reaching UK growers.
This conversation happened in a car, driving out to the field with Fiona at Pulvertoft Flowers. We got talking about varieties, about what's coming, about what's possible.

I mentioned Charlotte ranunculus to Alison on my visit few weeks back — one of my absolute all time favourites. Fiona and Alison sparked to the idea.

Hopefully our conversations will be the start of growing Charlotte ranunculus across the UK.

I went to visit Fiona at Pulvertoft Flowers to talk growing, flowers and the land.

And then a blue butterfly appeared and I completely lost the plot.

If you know me, you know blue is my colour and butterflies are my thing. Seeing one land right there, in the middle of everything — I couldn't not say something.

Some mornings just feel like they were meant to happen.
