Sunday Vinyl Sessions Episode 80 🎧 This week’s selection: Revelations by Dillinja 🎧

This track was released on Groovrider’s label Prototype Recordings in 1997 as part of a 2-track RP called ‘Cybotron ft Dillinja’.

In 2001, Dillinja also released an LP called “Cybotron” on his own label, Valve. It was part of a collaborative project with London Records, which led to an international tour. It was a huge success; not only did it define the Valve sound, it also established Dillinja as one of the most influential producers in his own right.

🇦🇺 Australia has banned largely AI-generated music from its official charts.

From this week, songs must be “substantially human-made” to qualify for the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) charts, as the Australian music industry moves to protect human artistry in an increasingly AI-driven music landscape.

The new rules mean:

✅ Humans must have written the song

✅Lead vocals must be human-performed

✅ Primary instruments must be human-performed

✅AI can still be used as a tool, including for mastering, drum machines and Auto-Tune

✅ Artists must declare their use of AI when submitting music for chart consideration

The move follows controversy surrounding Australian DJ Josh Fawaz’s AI-assisted cover of Madonna’s Like A Prayer, which topped the ARIA dance singles chart and reached No.2 on the overall chart.

ARIA says it isn’t against artists using AI as part of the creative process. The distinction is between AI as a tool and AI creating the music wholesale.

And it’s not just Australia.

Similar rules are beginning to appear elsewhere, with Sweden already excluding an AI-created track from its charts and international guidelines being introduced across other regions.

It raises a pretty big question for the future of music...

Do you agree with Australia’s decision? Should AI-generated music be allowed in the charts? 🎧
