IN MEMORY OF TIM CURRY (1946–2026)
These days, we seem to be saying goodbye to too many iconic figures - artists whose faces, voices and performances have become part of our shared cultural memory. We could not let another piece of sad news pass without marking it.
The world of cinema has lost Tim Curry - one of its great originals.
An actor who never seemed interested in being ordinary, Curry was fearless, theatrical, mischievous and utterly distinctive. He possessed that rare quality that cannot be taught: the ability to enter a screen and immediately change its temperature.
For generations of film lovers, he will forever be Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show — a performance of extraordinary freedom and audacity that helped turn an unconventional film into one of cinema’s most enduring cult phenomena.
But Tim Curry was never defined by a single role. From the terrifying Pennywise in Stephen King’s It, to Clue, Legend and Home Alone 2, from the stage to television and voice performance, he continually transformed himself, moving effortlessly between comedy, darkness, fantasy and theatre.
Perhaps that is why his work remains so alive. Tim Curry understood something essential about art: sometimes the greatest freedom comes from refusing to fit comfortably within expected boundaries.
At SIFFA , a festival created to celebrate independent voices and the courage to be different, we remember an artist who embodied precisely that spirit.
Thank you for the laughter, the fear, the extravagance and the glorious refusal to be ordinary.
